Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Participaction Challenge Day Glad the Participaction Challenge Day was a success..and next years will be even better! Congratulations to the winners! Yours truly & bet- ter half, were enthused, and put oh the fittest walking "duds' we had...and didn't do a thing-just sat in the car and looked at the rain coming down - so - we went home. My idea of keeping in Shape is "the magic of walking" - the exercise that needs no gym - the prescription without medicine - the fountain of "youth that is no legend - the walk is the vacation that doesn't cost a cent. That's for me! Bridal Shower Of Interest Cathy Olliffe of Caesarea, "hosted" an exciting miscellaneous bridal shower for Valerie Mappin, on Wednesday evening last, with some twenty relatives and office staff on hand for the delightful event. Instead of games they went for the Participaction Challenge Day walk around the pretty village of Caesarea. After the colourful gifts were opened...Cathy served a lovely lunch, and an hour of sociability was enjoyed. .before winding their way homeward. Our very best wishes to Valerie for much happiness, on June 27. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The regular morning service was conducted by Rev. Fred Swann at 10 a.m. with Mrs. Joyce Taylor - the . fine organist. Psalm 145 was read responsively, and from the Living Ed Faith the section was titled, "Our Mission and Unbelief."" Scripture was Isaiah, Ch. 6 and Rev. Swann continued the study of "The Lords Prayer - Hallowed by Thy Name." Respect, reverence and honor are all ways in which we use God's name. Our prayers are with you all. } Sympathy Extended We deeply sympathize with the family of Mr. James) Evanoff of Scarborough who passéd away dur- ing the week. Left to mourn his loss are daughters Dorothy McCabe of Nestleton and Gladys Erz of Scar- borough and son Albert Evanoff also of Scarborough. Mr. Evanoff lived a good life and reached a good age. The family will have wonderful memories of their find Dad. Sympathy also to the family of the late John Farmer of Newcastle - a former Port Perry boy. He leaves to mourn three sons - Tom of Lindsay, Keith of Brampton and David of Toronto. As well - a sister Marion Boyd of London, and a brother Ar- chie of Oshawa - his wife Doris, predeceased him about a year ago propriate and a sister Anne of Ottawa some years ago. Nestleton Sunday School Anniversary Service Held An excellent service on Sunday, May 31 for Nestleton United Sunday School, with a good attendance. This was a big event in the lives of the Sunday School children and their teachers. Superintendent Richard MacKenzie was at his best with his rare sense of humour and his ver- - satility in conducting the service. Wife, Janice led the young fry through their many numbers with skill. .and pianist Betty Headon capably performed at the piano for the young choir. During the prelude Carla Davis on flute and Karen Doyle on piano did exceptionally well. The whole service was smooth and the children sang like angels. Guest speaker, Margaret Tansley of Port Perry, presented an ap- message for the youngsters and kept them on their toes...a vibrant, interesting talk which they enjoyed very much, en- titled, "How The Spruce Tree Grew" based on Scripture from passages of Psalm I & Ephesians 4: I1-15. It was a special day bringing to a close another year of S.S. activi- ty. The congregation showed their approval by warm applause at the close. Appreciation tq speaker Margaret Tansley, the superinten- dent Richard & wife Janice and pianist Betty, and all who worked hard to make it a success. The picnic held after the service at the lovely home of Norm & Ber- nice Mairs was a great finale for a big day with delicious food, a good crowd and lots of interesting games. Ladies Ald Meets The Ladies Aid met in May at the home of Mamie Magill with presi- dent Dorothy Lee opening with words of welcome, a poem, and hymn, "What a Friend we have in . The inspiring worship was taken by Winnifred Davison...using verses 1-6 of [Ith Chapter of Ec: clesiastes, and the explanation from the Daily Bread," Cast Thy bread upon the waters." During business the financial statement was given and minutes approved as read, A generous dona- tion was received from the McNee- ly family. Re - an appeal from the Hospital Auxiliary...a motion car- ried that each member give $2.00 to the Hospital fund. Members decid: ed to rent a table for the Flea Market in June at the Nestleton Community Centre. A gift was presented to a bride-to- be Margaret Scott by the Ladies Aid. She expressed her appreciation of the gift and passed the lovely flower vase around for all to see! Roll call was answered with 'a thought for the day." The pro- gramme consisted of interesting readings by Joyce Taylor, Norma Wolfe and Bertha McLaughlin. The meeting closed with hymn, 'I Am Thine, O Lord" and Benediction. Lovely refreshments were served by Dorothy Lee and Winnifred Davison...a beautiful birthday cake to help Mamie celebrate her big day. Norma Wolfe thanked one and all who had participated in the wor- - thwhile afternoon and appreciation to Mamie for use of her home. Regatta Association Meeting Lake Scugog Regatta Association meeting will be held on Sunday, June 7, 1:30 p.m. at Len Prout"s eot- tage...the 3rd...south of Newbold's Marina.. Social Bits & Pieces Ted & Anne Mairs, Cannington, and Earl & Marjorie Shea from the Trailer Park called on the Norm Mairs on Sunday. On Sunday afternoon visiting at the Cawker farmstead were Mildred Playfoot and Marie Smith of Lind- say. A chat was enjoyed over the tea cups. Special thanks from the Caesarea folks to Ethel Call for her work in ar- ranging the lovely flowers garden in Putsey Park. It is much appreciated. : Marlene Bannister & friend of Peterborough, treated Mom Neta Fish to a lovely dinner at Haugen's Barbecue at Manchester, on Mon- day evening. Neta Fish and Yvonne Holland at- tended a lovely shower on Sunday afternoon in honour of a bride-to-be Lori Cole...with some "fifty in- terested folks present. A delicious lunch was served at the close. . On Saturday, Syl & Chandre Cawker of Scarborough, were lun- cheon guests with Sam & Mabel at the farm. Later they toured the stores in Port Perry and had tea at Conway Place before returning home. On Friday evening the Sam Cawkers were dinner guests with Bob & Madeline Cawker of Scugog Is. Other guests were Chas & Nell Cawker, Scarborough, and Wendy and Jodi Gerrow. Caesarea Community Church + A fine congregation with visitors welcomed on Sunday morning. Many friends assisted during the service. Jerry Jonkheer gave the opening prayer, Arden Maschke led the Responsive reading, Dan Pugh, Jr. read the first lesson and Teo Hoekstra a student from a seminary will be helping during! the summer months, commencing the middle of June. He read the second lesson. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford spoke on "Divine Love' with text from John - 13: 34-35 & 1st Peter Ch. 4-8. Next Sunday, June 7, the 5th anniversary will be celebrated with special speaker & special music & children's numbers.
