Their names are as follows: Bradley Batten, Chris Batt¢ n, Deb- bie Batten, Sharmen Porter, Catherine Aitken, Paul Emm; Chan- tal Davidchuk and Matthew David- chuk. We are pleased to welcome them into our church family. Also the Sacrament of Holy Communion was celebrated. During the service Debbie Batten sang "In My Heart There Rings a Melody," with the Senior Choir singing "More About Jesus." The scriptures were read by Sharmen Porter and Dianne Batten. Rev. McEntyre's sermon title was "Imagination" which was based on the text from Philippians Chapter 4, verse 8. Following the service everyone enjoyed cake and ice-cream downstairs, and a time of fellowship was enjoyed by all. .We had a special visitor at Church School on Sunday, when one of the children decided to bring her pet lamb. How contented it was in its box as everyone stopped to have a look. Next Sunday, we will welcome Graduation Janice Lynne Jackman, Port Perry, daughter of Jeanne Jackman and Jerry Jackman, recently graduated from the Sports Ad- ministration Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology, Oshawa, Ontario. | Janice has accepted a position as Customer Service Representative with Cooper Canada Ltd. in Mississauga, Ontario. pon . spoke on programme at Rev. Dorothy Bulmer to the pulpit in Burns. Her sermon title will be 'Sometimes God Seems so Distant." This Wednesday night the Eleanor Knight Group of the WMS. will meet at the home of Chrissie McKin- ney at Brooklin. Many thanks to all who con- tributed for the bake sale and especially to those who donated to the H.F. Daw Trail. It was a resoun- ding success! There was a good attendance at the regular meeting of the Brooklin Horticultural Society, last Wednes- day evening. We were pleased that two of our Ashburn ladies won top prizes in their flower entries. Ber- nice Gardner won the prize for the best tulip specimen, Nqrma Ingleton had the best novice arrangement, with Margaret Powell having the best decorative. Congratulations : ladies. The guest speaker for the evening . was Dave Hinton from Orono, who "'Rhododendrons and Azaleas." This was a most in- teresting and informative talk, which included a slide presentation of the Rhododendron Society of Canada, as well as his own beautiful garden in Orono. There are between 900 to 1,000 species of rhododendrons in the world, originating from south- east Asia. Doug and I were privileg- ed to visit this gentleman's garden last Sunday afternoon, and what a delight to see so many beautiful rhododendrons growing ih our own area. The iris show will be held at Burns Church Hall next Monday evening, June 8. All entries for the show -- should be in from 6:30 to 7:45. Meeting begins at 8 o'clock. The speaker for this meeting is Marlene Werry and her topic will be "Preserving the Crop." The results of the euchre game last Thursday night are as follows: ladies first prize to Jean Johnston, mens first to Jack Bright, ladies low to Effie Parrott, m low to Jack Skelding, lone hands to Violet Cole. 50/50 draw to Doris Doonan. Verna Slute won the door prize. There were nine tables of euchre played. The next euchre will be on Thursday. June 25. Last Saturday, May 30 was a hap- | py and memorable day for Julie Emm and her family when Julie graduated from Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology. She received her diploma in Advertising Administrations, and is presently " working for the ministry of Tourism & Recreation in Toronto.
