26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 12, 1987 For $10, you can chip in and help back a fighter Easter Seals Golf Week underway May 16 For the past 11 summers, golfers all over Ontario have been *'chipp- ing in to back a fighter" by taking part in the Al Balding Golf Week for the Easter Seal Society Their efforts have raised over $450,000 for the physically disabled children and families in this province. This year, the Al Balding Golf Week will be held May 16-25 and vir- tually all golf courses in Durham Region are participating in this wor- thy event. Here in Durham Region, the Police Association has been involv- ed with the Golf Week for the past decade and last year, just under $5,000 was raised in Durham. Police Association president Dale Allan is "If you're a golfer, once again this year you can "chip in and back a fighter" by taking part - in the Al Balding Golf Week for Timmy and Easter Seals Society. With the backing of the Durham Police Association, the Golf Week is taking place May 16-25 at most courses in the Region. Also, on May 23 there is a Mini Putt challenge at the Port Perry Driving Range. Last week, a press conference was held at Thunderbird Course to announce details of this year's Golf Week for 'Easter Seal Society. (See story for details). Some hoping that Durham golfers will really "chip in' and top that figure in '87. Here's how it works. Any time between May 16 and 25, you simply buy a Timmy/Tammy scorecard for $10 and go out and play your _ round of golf. The cards are available at the participating courses, It doesn't matter if you're a scratch player or a weekend duffer, all golfers have an equally good - chance to score well because of a handicapping system. All courses at which there are at least 25 golfers for Easter Seals will be able to send their top male and female competitior to the Tourna- ment of Champions which takes Seals 8 Society. place in July Incidently, some courses in Durham Region are waiving their regular green fees for all or part of the week for golfers who buy the $10 scorecard. At Sunnybrae the fees will be waived May 20, 21 and 22. At Summerlea, they will be waived all the week and at Thunderbird, they will be waived May 19. So get a foursome together, get yourself a $10 Timmy/Tammy scorecard, head out to your favourite course and play a round in the Al Balding Golf Week. All proceeds from the Mini Putt go to the Easter Seal Society. Preparation and planning is well underway for Armed Forces Day Open House and the Quinte Interna- tional Air Show (QIAS) to be held at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, On- tario on June 27 and 28. 1986 saw the successful introduc- tion of the new two-day format, with over 130,000 spectators attending the event and organizers are predicting an even larger audience for this aviation spectacular in 1987. This year's Air Show will have an increased emphasis on ground ex- hibits from both the military and the civilian aerospace industry, cover- ing literally thousands of square feet of indoor display area.
