"I feel | must forego the pleasure of this re- quest this year," he said. Councillor Hall, who was noticeably upset, said that the response for funds from the public has been excellent as has the response from foundations and business. "It makes it a lot easier to spread it out over a few vears than to do it in one year," he said. But councillor Malcolm was insis- tent that if council were in an easy budget year he would look at it dif- ferently, saying that the hospital can raise the money through depreciation or the Hospital Foun- dation, which has funds for this type purpose. "We have acquired the 'property over the years and we should now take a step and identify the need for 'a new building bv putting some -money aside for future use." he said. : But councillor Lawrence Malcolm | viewed the idea differently saying he was "amazed" that council is preparing to put $100,000 away for this specific use without having a report on the need for such a building. : "Once you've identified the use for this money it can't be used for anything else. It bothers me to see the Municipal Projects Fund divid- ed up like this for different pro- jects." he said : of purchase. "This is just good planning," said councillor Hall. 'It's good to let the people know what we are planning for the future and that one of those projects is the building of a new municipal building." The motion to put money aside for this project was defeated on a recorded vote by 5-2 with councillor Hall and Mayor Taylor the only two in favour.
