Prince Albert wrestlers © On Saturday, April 18, five © members of the Prince Albert = Public School Wrestling team travelled to North Albion Collegiate - = Institute in Rexdale and competed in the All Ontario Wrestling Cham- ~ pionships. The boys advanced to this competition by winning a medal at the recently held Durham Wrestling # Championships at Durham College: ~ Gavin Cochrane, Gord Jefirey, ~ Grant Kay and Stephen McFarlane ~~ all won gold medals in their respec- tive weight classes, while Jason ~ Thompson won a silver. At the provincials, competition ~~ was tough, as the best wrestlers from all over Ontario were present. ~ Four boys wrestled in the pee wee | The boys wrestling team (Junior, grades _ 4-6) shared first place with Sunderland at the all- ; | Durham finals held April 8 in Oshawa. The team i picked up a total of 41 points and several in- - dividuals came 'home with medals. More than 4 200 youngsters from 17 Durham Schools took ~ part in the finals April 8. Gavin Cochrane wrestled three excellent bouts pinning each of his opponents to win a gold medal in the 53.4 kg weight c)ass. Grant Kay had two very technical matches winning them 'both by pins. He received a gold medal for his efforts in the 38.9 kg weight class. Stephen McFarlane wrestled very well all day winning two bouts by pins and losing two very close matches by one point. Stephen finished fourth in Ontario with his accomplishment in the 31.15 kg weight class. Jason Thompson wrestled three very tough matches, some of the best calibre bouts of the day.
