Snowmobilers gear-down from busy winter season by Bruce Luke | guess everyone has been "think- ing snow" as I asked you in my last report since old man winter has sure co-operated and provided us with sufficient for our sport of snowmobiling. On Feb. 14, a few members brav- ed the cold and headed for Bewdley ~on Rice Lake. In spite of the cold the "ride was well worth it! Trails were excellent and I hear some of the riders enjoyed it so much they in "advertantly "headed onward and eastward, having missed the turnoff - at the tunnel and continued to follow Sno 10 headed for Havelock and points east. They soon found themselves though and made it back to the club house with no more problems | Sunday. Feb. 15th was listed as another Ride-in Breakfast to be followed by a Games Day Again the weather was quite cold but many ar- rived for a hearty breakfast of bacon-eggs. homefries and the works served by several ladies of | the Kitchen Maurice Pelletier was in charge of the "Games Day" aspect and I must say he did gn ex- cellent job! I think the extreme cold discouraged many would-be par ticipants but.the few who did take part sure seemed to have lots of fun' A very twisty and winding obstacle course where the driver races against the elock proved once again to be the most popular. the barrel race, again against the clock, was also very popular The following weekend, Feb 21.22 was a 2 day ride to the Bobcaygeon area. By now the weather had im proved and I think it was one of the nicest rides I've been on If I had to "order a perfect weekend -- this wast! Ralph Lee was our fearless leader and had us in Fenelon Falls inno time at alt where we stopped at the locks restaurant for nourish ment and minor adjustments It was | at this point where we were to meet some members of the Twin Moun tain Snowmobile Club who would lead us on to Bobcaygeon and our motél members would meet us along the way, wave as we passed and then fall in behind to ride a few miles with us. It was great! Upon arrival at the motel, the ladies of their club were already there and had a tableful of lunch ready for us. Even homemade rolls and trays full of fat- tening desserts. When we were able to pry ourselves away from the table, members took us on another scenic ride on their trail system, en- ding at their club house. A lovely cabin set in the woods i in the middle of nowhere. I don't think I can thank our organizer Marion Lee enough or the Twin Mountain Club 'for their hospitality. We were even met again the next morning for breakfast and escorted back to Fenelon where we bade farewell and headed home completely satisfied. Can't wait for next year's return trip! You members out there? Plan on joining us. With the sudden loss of snow in our area | guess members are now thinking summer since last night's t Mar. 8) General Meeting was poor- Iv attended. However a few loose ends were tied up and arrangements made to "spiffy" up our club house in the near future. Plans are well under way for the landowner banquet on Mar. 28th. Only wish we could do more for the many co-operating landowners in this area. Without their consent we would have no trails. Our next General Meeting will be April 5th, 2 p.m. at the club house.
