They travelled north of Peter- borough to play three successful games for this title For the first game, the girls from Port Perry met Ajax. Although Ajax gave their best effort, they just couldn't match Port's strength and Allen's Aluminum dominated the game for a 10-3 win. Lisa Levy scored 6 goals for Port and assisted twice. Nicole Slack's ring found the net 3 times and assisted Lisa on each of her 6 goals. Christine Mueller scored 1 goal. For their ef- forts, 2 assists each also went to Sylvia Durward, Laurel Menzies, Danielle Cooper and Heather Lawrence. ! Later on Saturday, Bobcaygeon proved to be more of a challenge. Although Port led 3-1 at the end of the first period, they seemed to be struggling with passing and shooting and Bobcaygeon came back to tie the game 3-3. Nicki Béare in net and the defence of Heather Lawrence, Sy!via Dur- ward and Lisa Toye worked hard and were decisive factors in swing- ing this game back to our favour while the forwards blew 4 more rings into the opposing net for a 7-3 victory. Bobcaygeon played a very aggressive game receiving 10 penalties to Port's 2 penalties but the Allen Aluminum Tweens definitely arose to this challenge Scoring for Port - Lisa Levy 4 goals, 3 assists; Nicole Slack 3 goals, 2 assists. Laurel Menzies, Heather Lawrence and Terry Bell also. asp sted For the final game on Sunday . morning, Port met Mariposa. Once again, they faced an aggressive team that received 15 penalties. Once again, Port kept their cool and despite a few injuries, they played the game as it should be played. This tactic proved successful as Port Perry came through with a 12-7 victory. What a team! Lisa'Levy and Nicole Slack supplied our scor- ing power with Lisa sinking 8 rings and Nicole found the mark with 4 goals. Assisting were Nicole Slack 5; Lisa Levy and Laurel Menzies 2; Heather Lawrence and Christine Mueller 1. Along with the gold medals, the girls received a silk pennant to hang in our own Scugog Arena. Con- gratulations on winning this prestigious title with such a decisive victory. The Auctioneers face the crunch On Saturday March 21 the Pearce Auctioneers began their final series for the Eastern Ontario Champion- ship against Ernestown and it pro- ved to be a very exciting and equal- ly aggressive match-up. Port Perry started scoring early in the game as Jeremey Geer blasted the puck bet- ween the pipes, unassisted with on- ly 40 seconds played into the game Port's Sandy Mark did some fan- ¢y skating and shot in Port's second - of the period assisted by Jay King. Tending Port's net was Scot Pret- chitko who made some unbelievable saves throughout the game in- cluding several breakaway shots!' Super work Scotty! During the 2nd period Port Perry continued to play aggressive hockey -but Ernestown managed to sneak in 3 goals to take the lead. With a 5 minute break between the 2nd and: 3rd period the Auctioneers got a good rest and a rousing pep talk from coach Spencley and were ready to play again. With 1 minute gone iti the 3rd period Sandy Mark wound up and let go a devastating shot past the Ernestown net minder tieing the game 3-3 With Port Perry wanting the win they raced to the limits of their abilities and were ab solutely fantastic forechecking, backchecking and shooting on the Ernestown net These 2 teams play the same style of hockey and are equally matched making this series a very fast skating end to end type of game that 1s so exciting to watch With 2 minutes remaining in the game Port Perry was handed 2 minor penalties and that was "all Ernestown n\eded as they scored twice giving t the Ist game 5-3 Great work Port Perry! GAME TWO The second match-up between these 2 teams on Sunday night was even more exciting with the holiday over the Novice No.1 were back to full strength and they bolted onto the ice ready to fly! Once again Port ER FET Go EAE ET ET 8 Re Chaat SE T LER BE Perry opened the scoring on a sen- sational goal by the always hard working Jeremey Geery assisted by Timmy Fitzpatrick who also played a great game. Two minutes later Port took a 2-0 lead as Gavin Carnegie was in front of the net to pick up a rebound shot and tuck it past the Ernestown netminder assisted by Kenton LeFort. Ernestown scored 1 minute later which ended the period 2-1. The Auctioneers came on strong in the 2nd period as Jeremey Geer did it again -- tucking it right in the corner assisted by fellow linesman Craig Laird. To end the second period Gavin Carnegie, Ryan Willams and Kenton LeFort assulted the Ernestown netminder and after several shots Ryan bang- ed in the goal with Kenton and Gavin picking up well earned ASSISES As the 3rd period opened up Ernestown scored but 5 minutes later centerman Kenton LeFort picked up a pass from Ryan Williams and blasted a hard shot right up into the top corner making the score 5-2 Once again Scot Pret- chitko and Brandon Hammond made some nice saves on the Ernestown plavers Unfortunately the 3rd period had been changed from the normal 10 minutes to 15 minutes for this series and the Novice No 1 not being used to the additional time. found it hard to page themselves for the final 5 minutes. Although Port continued to give their all the final 5 minutes saw Ernestown score four times to win "the game 7-5 The Port Perry Novice Nol should be very proud of themselves as they proved they've got what it takes to beat this team. The boys started their tournament with an easy win over a team from Oakville and Jeff Parry came out as . the big shooter. The score for the game was 7-0 and Jeff scored 4 of the 7 goals. Jeff opened the scoring whehi he picked up a pass from defenseman Brett Puckrin and caught the top corner of the Oakville net. Jan Heyes and Ken Winslow assisted. Port came out strong in the se- cond period and again Jeff Parry was able to score twice on the Oakville net. Mark Andrews made a fast pass onto Jeff's stick after Brett Puckrin had won the puck on a corner scrimmage. The assists went to Ken Winslow and Jason Cochrane. Brian Madill played between the pipes for most of the game and made some fantastic saves. This was a well deserved shutout for Brian. The boys played the following day and came up against a strong team from Petrolia. His first shot went high over the goalie's head when Danny picked up the rebound shot from Greg Fitzgerald Brett Puckrin assisted as well on the goal. Danny then caught the goalie flat when he went down after a corner shot by Jan Heyes. John Collins finished Port's scoring after Petrolia pulled their goalie and Mark Andrew's fought hard to win the puck and pass it out to John to, score the goal. Steve Staniland had made a slow shot initially on the "open net, and a Petrolia defenseman had made a great dive to avoid it from going in. Shawn Larocque played a strong game between the pipes. 'Port returned to Goderich on Saturday to play the Championship game against St. Marys and came out on the losing end of a hard fought 3-2 game. Brian Madill played in net for the first period and stopped 10 shots ver- sus Port's one shot on the St. Mary's net. No goals were scored on either teams in the first period. Shawn Larocque took Brian's place bet- ween the pipes part way into the se- cond period. St. Mary's were able to put one in despite the skillful play- ing of goaltender Shawn Larocque. but luckily he held them at one goal only. In the final period Port suffered the loss of teammate Jeff Parry when he was taken to hospital tournament in Goderich because of a strong hit from behind. 'Port scored their first goal of the game, when Jason Cochrane made a beautiful pass from behind the net to linemate Jan Heyes, who tipped the puck into the net. The game stayed this way until 2 minutes and _..54 seconds were left in the game and then St. Mary's scored again. It didn't take long for Brett Puckrin to even the game up at 2-2. He skated around the net and tucked this one into the corner. Danny Sluggett assisted on the goal. With only 17 seconds left in the game St. Marys scored again. Port pulled their goalie, but however were not able to capitalize with the extra man. . The boys all played very well throughout this tournament and fac- ed some strong competition. Jeff Parry was found to have no serious injuries after a hospital examina- tion. The boys finished off their season well and from all the boys and the parents we would like to say "Big Thank-you to the team of Garry Geer.
