Cornish-Port Perry High School Junior Curling program came to a close last Wednesday with a rink skipped by Carrie Fielding defeating the Chris Moore rink. The curling program which began last fall with 128 curlers has been an overwhelming suc- cess and organizers say they are pleased with the number of en- tries and are looking forward to another full program next year. He was in his 79th year Bruce was born November 1, 1908 In Mariposa Township, near Little Britain. He was the only child of Alfred and Charlotte Snelgrove. The family lived on a farm near Little Britain, w here Bruce attended 'Brawles School, close by. At the age of twelve his family then moved to Prince Albert. Bruce finished public school in Prince Albert and then went to Port Perry High School. After finishing school, he went into the decorating business for 10 years or more On August 27th. 1938. "OKI PERRY STAR Tuesday, March 17, 1987 -- 27 Bantams bow to Napanee by 3-1 The Goreski Insulation Bantam's season came to a disappointing end Saturday March 7 with a 3-1 loss to Napanee. This was the fourth game of the series and like the first three was well played and entertaining. Goreski's controled much of the play during the game but once again were stymied by Napanee goalie Jim Sangster. Clair Cornish scored the lone goal for Port assisted by Todd Taylor. This fourth game was forced when Goreski's won game 3 in Napanee the previous Wednesday by a 3-2 score. Port was really fired up for this game as it was do or die and the boys were bound and deter- mined not to let Napanee put them out 3 straight. Mike Sorley gave Port a 1-0 lead assisted by Todd Taylor and Kevin Gibson. Napanee tied it up a little over a minute later but Clair Cor- nish gave Goreski's the lead again before the first period ended. Taylor and Gibson once again picked up the assist. Napanee then tied the game at 2 with time running out in the se- cond period. Three minutes into the third period Cornish scored the win- ner assisted by Jason Weinhold. Although the season didn't end the way the team had hoped they still had a very successful year. They finished with 41 wins, 14 losses and 3 ties. They won 4 championship trophies in the six tourniments they entered. Special mention should be made to Clair Cornish who scored 60 goals and along with Todd Taylor finish- ed with over 110 points. Also both of the goaltenders Chris McConnell and Brad Bricknell finished with goals against averages of under 2:70 per game. These are just a few of the outstanding performances on the team this year and everybody deserves credit for outstanding jobs. Ajax knocks Sportsiand out On Tuesday, March 10 the Spor- tsland Juniors travelled to Pickering to play Ajax in their last play-off game. Port was not able to put things together: in this game and as a result lost by the score of 4-0. On Saturday, March 14 the Port Juniors travelled to Peterborough to play in their last tournament of the year. Port's first game was at 12 noon against Whitby. Port Perry has had trouble beating Whitby all season bat this didn't slow our team down. Port skated well and tried their hardest to-keep the Whitby goals out-of the - net. This wasn't enough as Whitby came out on top by the score of 5-4. The second game wds at 3:00 p-m. against Oshawa. Port skated well but couldn't seem to pick up their passes. Oshawa came back in the last 30 seconds to tie the game at-3-3. The third game was played Sun- day morning against Oshawa. Port finally woke up and picked up their passes fairly well, and kept the Oshawa shots out of the net. The final score in this game was 5-3 in Port's favour. With this win Port advanced to the championship against Whitby. This game was exciting and Port ~ Perry was very eager to win but Whitby was just as eager: Whitby came out on top by the score of 5-4, but Port was able to pick up the silver medal. Scoring this weekend were Sherry Harris 5 goals, Michelle Beare 3 goals, Jen Pelow 2 goals -and Rachel Traynor 1 goal. Assists "went to Jen Pelow with 6: and Michelle Beare and Val White with 3 each.
