That's what the thirty-piece Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra has pledged to deliver Town Hall 1873 music series patrons in the season's closing concert on Thurs- "day, March 26th. This highly skilled professional or- chestra, which also manages to maintain extensive involvement in the Hamilton community, has evolv- ed over the past 103 years. It cur- rently consists of various chamber ensembles, including string, wood- wind, and brass combinations ---- specialized features of the Hamilton Philharmonic. The orchestra, which bills itself as the 'orchestra of the 80's" also presents eight exciting concert series each year, and con- ducts runout performances in other communities. It has been featured on television, and has recorded on several record labels. Under the gifted direction of Music Director Boris Brott, O0.C., the Hamilton Philharmonic has become recognized as one of Canada's finest orchestras. Critical acclaim has been accordedthem in PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 10, 1987 -- 43 Hamilton Philharmonic is coming phrases such as "World Class or- chestra," "intensity that was thrill- ing," and "'a versatility beyond the reach of most symphonic ensembles." Mr. Brott is an internationally recognized Canadian conductor who has contributed to the development of five Canadian orchestras. He has enhanced Canada's musical reputa- tion abroad, working with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic, and as Conductor for the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, London, as well as guest conducted in _many countries ---- Mexico, South America, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Israel, toname a few. Mr.-Brott has been a gold medal winner in New York and has won prizes in other major interna- tional competitions. A major com- mitment of Mr. Brott is the develop- ment of young, Canadian talent. This celebrated conductor now brings his personal talent to the Town Hall 1873 stage. He received top prizes in the 1976 CBC Talent Festival, and the 1978 Geneva Inter- national Competition. He is active both as a soloist and as a recitalist. Mr. Quarrington has been a. member of teaching faculties at the University of Western Ontario, Mount Orford' (Quebec), 'and the Banff School of Fine Arts (Alberta), among others. . The evening promises to be a glit- tering finale to an already splendid season. Devotees of Mozart, Haydn, and Handel should be especially pleased with the planned pro- gramme, which will feature the famed Watermusic Suite, Marriage of Figaro, and *'London" Suite -- all musical gems. The Food Grains Pancake supper was enjoyed by a good crowd: Floyd Evans showed pictures taken in Ux- bridge when grain was being bagg- ed to feed the starving people. Pat Asling showed some very good film she had brought home from a trip to Northern Scotland. The men will be bagging grain in Uxbridge at the Co-op all this week and anyone who could spare a lit time, please come along, it would most appreciated. They have 4000 bags to fill this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Evans were visiting relatives in Delaware last week. The Science Fair is on at Port Perry High School this week. Several from this area are participating. 'Happy birthday to Betty Tapscott and to her father Mr. Herb Thomas of Markham. Oshawa-Whithy Kiwanis Music Festival is set Kifest, which covers the Durham region, is one qf the top 10 festivals in Canada and this year will see ap- proximately 18,000 competitors tak- Ing part. The two week Festival will be highlighted with a special evening called "The Night of Stars' on April 15 at Eastdale Auditorium where some of the Festival's top com: petitors will perform.
