Ss iii Uxbridge leads series 2-1 by John B. McClelland The Port Perry MoJacks did what they had to do Sunday night at the Scugog Arena. They won a hockey game and now trail the Uxbridge Bruins two games to one in the best of seven' final in the Walter Crowley Division of the Central Junior League. The MoJacks came up with a tough, gritty performance in front of a full house at the Scugog Arena to grind out a crucial 3-1 win in the third game of the series. A loss would have put the team down three games to none and fac- ing the near impossible task of win- ning four,straight. The series opened last Wednesday night in Port Perry with the Mo- Jacks out-playing the visitors by a wide margin, but losing 3-2 in sud- den death overtime. Game two in Uxbridge Friday evening was a wide open affair as the Bruins scored late in the game and added an empty net goal en route to an 8-6 victory. Even with several regulars out of the line-up with an assortment of in- juries, the MoJacks came to play Sunday night and they got a fine per- formance from netminder Brian Tarleton. He faced 32 shots and allowed just one to get by him. The MoJacks scored first late in the opening frame as Darren Nesbitt re-directed a shot from the blue line by Lee Wilbur, who filled in admirably on the injury-ridden squad. Andy Sutch also had an assist on this power play effort. Nesbitt's goal at 19:09 on the power 'play marked the first time in the Malmont On Saturday February 28, the Malmont Farm Atoms hosted an eight team tournament at the Scugog Arena. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME This game pitted the Port Perry No. 1 Atoms against a very tough squad from Millbrook but by show- ing relentless checking and skating the Green Machine overpowered them to take a 4-0 victory and the Championship trophy: The first period was well played by both clubs but neither team could put the puck in the net. In the second period David Pashley gave Port Perry the lead with the assist going to Chad Gar- vock and Jeff Andrews. In the third period the Millbrook squad appeared to run out of gas as the hometown club popped three more unanswered goals to take a 4-0 victory and the Championship trophy / Scoring for the Port Atoms was Jeff Andrews, Sean McEnaney and Chad Garvock. Assists were given to Steve Desautels, Adam Johnston, Peter King and Gavin Cochrane. Game No.1 The Malmont Farm Atoms open- ed up the tournament by playing the Oshawa L.N.H.L. Black Hawks. They battled for the puck behind the Bruin cage and when it came free to Sutch at the side of the net, he moved into the slot and rifled his patented wrist shot just under the cross bar.
