Meeting Viewpoint ' From page 18 ny And non-running is cheap. Sweatsuits, netted. shirts and West German sneakers are not needed by non-runners. You can non-run in street clothes, formal wear or the nude. (While it's true that there are some non- runners who prefer racing- stripe pyjamas and leisure suits, and enjoy arguing on the merits of soft slippers versus 'hard-soled, these are in the minority). Non-running gives the over- structured and over-directed life a needed sense of pur- poselessness. Artificial at- tempts to define goals such as setting records or winning races are doomed to fail, ultimately leading to irreversible depres- sion. The quicker you realize this, the happier you will be. But some people never understand. Competitive, com- pulsive, indigestive, they become obsessed with crossing finish lines and counting laps. They begin to see life as a race, lured by the false promise of getting someplace. They lose sight of the importance of stay- ing in one place and not moving for long periods of time. And they pay a fearful price in terms of the unnecessary provocation of untold thousands of innocent dogs that are rudely transform- ed into snapping curs with a morbid desire to taste the human ankle. Non-runners do not ex- perience these problems. They truly understand the beauty and power of slow. They reject the pseudo-adventure of the road. Non-runners know that wisdom can't be rushed. Theirs is the way of the turtle, the snail, theirs the spirit of the glacier. Grass grows under their feet and it tickles their toes and it's nice. Baby ducklings are not frightened by their passing. They are non-runners. And the ducklings know it. Scugog - Transmission - Sales CASH & CARRY REBUILT TRANSMISSIONS GUARANTEED...
