26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 24, 1987 Curling Corner by Scott Howey This past weekend the O.C. A In termediate competition was held in Newmarket. Two Port Perry teams took part. The team of Doug Russell, Roy Corden, Brian McLat- chie, and Paul Woodcroft was eliminated after the second game, having curled well in both games. Ralph Fairman"s team of Garnet Warriner, Ted Culbert, and Stan Zur ly lost the first game to Oshawa's Rich Vesey. They came back to win the next four games, but in the B- final Sunday night they lost a tough decision to Vesey again after he had lost in the A-final. According to War- riner the team curled exceptional ly well. Congratulations on their efforts On February 14 and 15 the Junior Mixed Competition was held at Ux- bridge. Port Perry's team of Steve Whalen, Sandra Liston, Brent McLaughlin and Lisa St. John were eliminated after the second round The team curled well in both their games despite the losses Another curler from Port Perry, Debbie VanCamp was playing in the same event with the Andrew Mepstead rink from the Oshawa C'. This team lost their first game but came back to win the next five games and win the B-final. They now advance to the Regionals being held at Annondale on March 7 & 8 This coming Saturday is the Lake Scugog Lumber bonspiel. But after more than 12 hours of curling, the team of Jack Tripp Atoms in tournament On Saturday, February 21 the Marj Tripp Atom House League team travelled to Sunderland:-for a six team round-robin tournament. Game 1 Lake Scugog Lumber 5 Marj Tripp 4 Game one was against the other Port Perry entry. In the first period Tripp opened the scoring on a goal by Ricky Olaisen from David Holt and Wade Sheedy. Scugog came back with two quick goals by Andrew Jones from Stephen Kyte and Kevin Pierce unassisted. The only goal of the se- cond frame was by Karen Kett from . Kevin McGriskin. The third period saw Scugog score two more goals by Stephen Stiles' from Kevin Pierce and Kevin Pierce from Stephen Stiles. Tripp scored three goals late in . the period to almost tie the game. Scoring for Tripp were Kent Jamieson from David Holt, Ricky Olaisen from David Holt, and Dar- rin Hope from Adam McTaggart. This game was also the last regular season game for these two clubs. Game 2 Sutton 6 -- Tripp 0 Game two put Tripp against a very strong Sutton team. Sutton won « this game 6-0 with three goals in the first and third period.
