During grief this 1s especially true. For a child the éxpres sion of grief can be even more troublesome It can be helpful to encoyrage a child to write a letter to the loved one who has died, or draw pictures about their feelings of sadness One little boy drew pictures throughout his school day This began to worry his teachers until they discovered that he was drawing the funeral home from which his mother was recently buried. After do ing many drawings about the funeral he was finally able to talk to his teacher and family about his mother's death Just before Christmas, a nine-year-old boy told us how much he was going to miss his grandpa who had just died. He decided to write a letter a day to his grandpa, beginning the first of December until Christmas Day. This way he was letting grandpa know how much he missed him while including him in his seasonal celebra tion. This also helped him work on his feelings of sadness about the death and to tell about his love for grandpa in his own special way Please direct your comments to Harold Wagg, 985-2171.
