Goreski's con- _ trolled from the outset and ended up winning by a 16-5 score., Todd Taylor led the way for Goreski's with 4 goals and 4 assists. Kevin Gibson pitched in with a hat- trick and also picked up 3 assists. Clair Cornish scored his 50th goal of the year and added 5 assists for a 6 point night. Cornish's linemates also had a big night with Mike Sorley scoring twice and assisting on 2 others while Sean Bradbury added the hat-trick. Brian Appleby and Paul Allen each scored once and assisted once while Blaine Sleep finished off the scoring with his first goal of the year. Chris Legere, Jason Weinhold and goaltender Brad Ericknell each picked up one assist. After the game Port Hope with the consent of Goreski's and the OMHA forfeited the remainder of the series. This"allowed Goreski's to ad- vance to the next round of the playoffs against Huntsville who were added to Port Perry's zone the week before. Goreski's travelled to Huntsville on Saturday, February 7 for game 1 of their best of 5 series. This was an exciting hard hitting game as Goreski's were forced out of their preferred skating style of game due to the small ice surface. Huntsville opened the scoring 5 minutes into the game but Todd Taylor replied Pineridge Atoms reach the finals Port Perry 2- Newcastle 4 and got a spirited contest from a good Newcastle team. Plenty of speed, excellent checking and plen- game. Brent Harper, back after missing a few games, made his presence felt with a goal and an assist. Billy San- diford chipped in with a goal and two assists. Scott Wylie, who has been playing very well had a goal. Trailing by a goal and with time running out, Mike William's high wrist shot salvaged a tie for Port. Big Simon Traynor had an assist and along with Misty Andrews broke up numerous Newcastle attacks. : Steven Stiles' excellent goalten- ding, particularly in the first half of the game, had much to do with Port gaining a tie in this game. The Pineridge players expected - ty of penalties characterized this 'GREYSTONE EQUESTRIAN CENTRE with 2 goals before the period end- ed to give Goreski's the lead after 15 minutes. Huntsville regained the lead with 2 late second period goals but with only 36 seconds left Todd Taylor completed his hat-trick to once again tie the score at 3 after 2 periods. . It only took Huntsv ille 1:07 of the third period to regain the lead. But the never say die Goreski squad fought back as Clair Cornish tied the score 2 minutes later and then 40 seconds after tying the game scored the winner. Both of these goals were unassisted efforts. Both Clair and Mike Sorley each picked up 2 assists in this game. Both Chris McConnell of Port and Chris Kobylonski of Huntsville played well in the nets stopping many excellent scoring chances. The second game of this series will be played Friday, Febr ary 13 at 8:00 in Baysville which i& near Huntsville. Game 3 will be played Monday, * February 16 at 7:30 in Port Perry. Game 4 if necessary will also be . played in Port Perry on Wednesday, February 18 at 8:15. If Game 5 is 'necessary it will be played in Hunt- sville Saturday, February 21 at 5:15. Besides Goreski's busy playoff 'schedule they will also be playing in their annual Bantam tournament Saturday, February 14: Action gets underway at 8 a.m. and the players would love to have your support. Port Perry © - Millbrook 4 : Pineridge Atoms completed the strenuous round robin affair against the strong Millbrook squad. Despite this loss, Port gave an excellent display of strong skating and good Steven Stiles was outstanding as he frustrated Millbrook sharp- shooters with solid standup goaltending. The coaches and players all are confident they can skate and check this Millbrook squad. If they can muster more offence, the best of five final involving these two teams will be very interesting. Good Luck Pineridge! You have come a long way since that 10-2 loss to Millbrook early in the season. The final starts February 14 in Millbrook at 8:00 p.m. and February 15 at 4:00 p.m. Third game in Port "Perry February 18 at 7:00 p.m. Valentine's Special KING'S PLATE LOUNGE, GREYSTONE Saturday, February 14th ONLY -- STEAK & SHRIMP DINNER, Salad Bar, Roll & Butter, Tea or Coffee ....... $15.95 BRING YOUR SWEETHEART for 1/2 PRICE!
