Film students from Niagara Col- lege in Welland, Ontario, will be spending the next few weeks editing the yards of 16mm film footage they have shot in Scugog Township over the last week or so. The subject of their efforts is the mysterious ghost light on Scugog Island. Why here? Especially since the ghost is a two-and a half hour drive from the college campus? Richard Douglas, the film's young reporter, researcher and director, heard about the infamous ghost light from relatives Diane and Doug Hogg, who live in this area. He was immediately fascinated by the story of the headless motorcyclist who still roams the Ghost Road, and when his broadcasting course at schoel called for film ideas, he con- "sidered the ghost. Early last fall, Richard, along with partners Colin Browning and Geoff Holmes, drove to Scogug Township to see how much myth and how many facts exist about the ghost. Their mission was to find out as much as they could and then at- tempt to conv ince their fellow classmates to use the ghost as a subject. Other students were doing exact- ly the same thing with different sub- jects, but only three subjects out of several could be chosen. As it turn- ed out, Richard, Colin and Geoff's enthusiasm, as well as their, research, managed to secure the go 356 KING ST. W., 'OSHAWA If you hear trouble ... The three students visited this area several times, gleaning infor- mation from the library; museum and various people including Mayor Jerry Taylor, "ghost expert' Allene Kane, Star reporter Cathy Olliffe, psychic Rosalind Hodgson and Island resident Ross Carter."Most of the above will appear in the film, after being interviewed on camera last week. 'When the film is completed, the crew hopes to 'enter it in CBC's Telefest film competition for students. They also expect to win, since a psychic told them they would. Regardless of the outcome of ~ Telefest, the film will be marked as their major project of the year. If they fail, Colin Browning jokes, "We'll be working at McDonald's." Crew members also hope to show © the film to local residents sometime in late spring, possibly at Scugog Memorial Library. As for the ghost itself, well, the 'crew members have spotted it on many occasions, and while they - don't like to think it's a Real Ghost, they're not sure what it is. "I think it's light reflections from somewhere,"' Richard guesses. "Every time I've beenhere it' s been different." And while the film explores dif- ferent theory, Richard says it won't come right out and say what the light is. Or what it is not. The mystery still lingers. 433-1494 -- "WY RA 10CH ; T B Free Inspection® and Estimate by certified mechanics (*for most car models) ub Top Quality Replacement Parts Respected National Brands: Abex - Wagner - BM Autopro National Guarantee Gabriel - Verdic Honoured by over 350 Autopro dealers coast to coast Ee an A 7A West - Port nny a MASTERCARD, VISA, GULF & PETROCAN CARDS # nC -- = At AUTOPRO we don't play games with our customers!
