Five Seagrave boys (Michael Williams, Chad Kearns, Robin Prentice, Neil Mueller and Billy Sunderland Lions host 30th music festival The 30th annual Sunderland Lions Club Music Festival gets underway on Tuesday, February 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the Sunderland Town Hall with the official opening by Brock Township Mayor, Allan McPhail. -A record 1,027 entries will par- ticipate in 146 vocal, piano and in- strumental classes. ~The festival provides a forum for young musicians from the Brock, Scugog, Uxbridge, Mariposa, Eldon and former Georgina township areas to perform publicly and receive assessment from profes- sional adjudicators. All participants will receive a cer- - tificate along with their written ad- judication. Trophies or. similar awards are presented to all class winners who achieve a mark of 80 + or greater. Other special awards in- clude the Ross Scholarship which is awarded to the contestant in piano classes 13 to 16 who in the judge- ment of the adjudicator shows the greatest potential for further piano study; the Margaret Andrew Scholarship which is awarded to the pianist in Grade 8 or 9 showng the greatest potential for further musical performance; the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Trophy which is awarded to the con- --==-testant in vocal classes 103; 104;-112- and 113 who in the judgement of the adjudicator shows the greatest potential for further vocal study; the Sunderland Co-operative Trophy which is awarded to the contestant with the highest mark in vocal classes 104, 105, 106, 114, 115 and 116; and the Bruce Kellington Memorial Award which is presented to the pianist attaining the highest mark in piano classes for Grades 1 to 8. The festival continues through to February 27th at three separate venues - the Sunderland Town Hall, the Sunderland United Church and the Brock High School Auditorium. Copies of the Official Programme can be purchased for $1.50 from Flindall's Freshmart, Sunderland Pharmacy and Sunderland Home Hardware, as well as at Irwin Smith Music Ltd. in Port Perry. Program- _.mes_will also be available at the three venues during the festival. Stars of the Festival Concerts, featuring all class winners will be held at the Sunderland Town Hall on March 3, 4 and 5 at 7:00 p.m. The Sunderland Lions Club is justifiably proud of its 30 years of in- volvement in the development of young musical talent in the area.
