Choir helps United Church celebrate Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly The Centennial Celebrations of the United Church began in grand style on Sunday with the impressive evening of music presented by the General Motors Choir. An excellent crowd was welcomed by Celebra- tion Chairman Joyce Kelly. Mr. Pete Thrasher was M.C. for his choir's performance which includ- ed a wide variety of music styles. During the intermission Rev. Dale Davis led an old time hymn sing with church pianist Linda Kyte ac- companying. It was a great evening of entertainment. ' Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Gerritt Jr., onthe recent passing of Jerry's mother last week. Warmest community. The decision was made 'to serve refreshments at the Science Fair in March for the first fundraiser. Feb. 9th at 7:30 p.m. at the Public School. Parents are welcome to attend. Connie Stpehenson, reporter Blackstock Co-op Nursery School The Jan. meeting was held at the Nursery School on Jan. 13th. There are now 75 members, 80 children and no openings in the school. A vote of appreciation was extended to all those who helped with the Christmas Party. Instructions were given concerning the distribution of the Valentines during the week of Feb. 10-13th. As usual Chicken Pox is starting at this time of year. Durham 57 may be up-graded Durham Works Department will be asking budget approval for $750,000 over a three year period to upgrade Regional Road 57 in the Caesarea area. In a report from the works depart- ment, chairman Gerry Emm has asked for $250,000 in the 1987 budget and a like amount in the years 1988 and 1999 to upgrade County 57 from Caesarea easterly to the boundary of Manvers Township. * Emm said the road would be upgraded to acceptable standards with eriphasis given to im- provements in areas known to be deficient. He added the region is also attempting to get approval Rural Ontario Municipalities Association (ROMA) to impose a gravel truck levy which should greatly aid in keeping such regional roads as 57 and 23 up to snuff throughout the year.
