hp, or ! v " " - a, a le. . by John B. McClelland It has not been a banner week for the Port Perry MoJacks. After losing 6-3 on home ice to the Bowmanville Eagles last Thursday evening, things got even worse Sun- day at the Scugog Arena as the Mo- Jacks went down to defeat 124 at « the hands of the Uxbridge Bruins. The two losses dropped the Mo- Jacks from first place overall, and they are now in danger of falling from top spot in the Crowley Divi- sion as the Bruins are Just three points back with a game in hand. Things got a little hot Sunday night at the Scugog Arena when the Port Perry MoJack cage was jarred loose during action between Port Perry and the Uxbridge Bruins. The visitors had little trouble winning 12-4 over a Port Perry But what really has MoJack fans shaking their heads is that the team shows little signs of breaking out of a slump that began several weeks ago. And playoffs are due to get underway the first week in February. While the MoJacks have been struggling of late, the Bruins from Uxbridge have been red hot, winn- ing five straight games since retur- ning from a tour in Europe over the Christmas holidays. The Bruins now have 38 points, three behind Port Perry. story) team that has been struggling of late. But the second belonged to the Bruins as, they opened a 7-3 lead. - And the visitors added five more in the final frame to breeze to the 12-4 win. Captain Andy Sutch scored a pair of goals with singles going to Len Giacalone and Rob St. Jules. Rob. Nicholson potted three goals for the Bruins while Stu Holter and Chris Brown had two each. It was a brutal game for the Mo- / haves won five straight and are just three points behind the MoJacks for first in the Crowley Divi- sion. They skated well, moved the puck crisply and did a thorough job bottling the MoJacks up in their own zone. ~ Brian Tarleton and Paul Goreski faced 39 Bruin shots in this game, while the MoJacks could manage just 27 on the Uxbridge net. In the second period, they had just five shots en the goal. In the last six games, the MoJacks have won three and lost three. But they have given up 43 goals in those six games, while scoring 30, and that's a pretty good indication of the team's fortunes in the last couple of weeks. Last Thursday night at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks ran into some serious penalty problems in the se- cond period and wound up taking a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Bowman- ville Eagles. These two teams hook up only twice during the regular schedule, ~ and in both games the MoJacks' have turned in less than stirling per- formances. In Bowmanville just after Christmas, the Eagles won by a wide margin 124. At the Scugog Arena Thursday night, the MoJacks fell behind 1-0 at the 5:02 mark as Chris Dreossicon- verted a two on one break into a goal. But midway through the period, Chris Nicholson took a pass from John Miller deep in the Eagles end , of the rink and he completely fool- ed netminder John Rowe with a low, hard slap shot from a sharp angle. . At 17:35, the MoJacks went ahead F 2-1 when Rick Wilson flipped home a loose puck at the side of the Eagle net as the team enjoyed a power play. Early in the third, the MoJacks began to carry the play to the 'Eagles and it resulted in several Jood scoring chances, but Bowman- 'ville tied the match at 2-2 when Chris Michelson stripped the puck from Darren Nesbitt at.the MoJack DURHAM AUTOMOTIVE DURHAM AUTOMOTIVE AUTO BODY REPAIR We will pay the first $100. The MoJacks appeared to be on the way to recovering from that goal when they were hit with a controver- sial seven minute penalty, plus a two minute bench minor. + Al 6:31, Rick Wilson became in- volved in a scrap with Rob Schlecter just inside the MoJack blue line Both players were attempting to get the other's head gear off and Wilson succeeded. As' they wrestled, Schlecter flipped off Wilson's helmet, and the fight ended when the players wdund up in a heap on the ice. Wilson got two minutes for being the aggressor, two for high-sticking five for fighting, a game misconduct -and a match penalty for grabbing the face mask. Schlecter, who started the scuffle by throwing a punch at Wilson's head, got five for fighting and a game misconduct But the MoJacks had to play a man short for seven minutes, and when they argued the decision, the ref slapped on another bench minor Despite some strong penalty kill- ing efforts by Greg Warriner, who came close to scoring while two short, the Eagles quickly yappedin two goals to grab a 4-2 1edd and that seemed to take all the wind from the MoJack's sails. : Early in the third, Bowmanville took a 5-2 lead 'when Troy Foster converted a two on one break. At 8:10, Warriner scored on a rebound to cut the margin to 5-3 and that's "how it stood until the final minute - when the Eagles scored into an emp- ty MoJack net. / The MoJacks are running a little thin along the blue. Wilson will have to sit out a couple of games at least. Nesbitt and Clay Dempsey played Thursday night on gimpy legs which are less than 100 percent.
