Never giving up the Novice No. 1 team travelled to Bowmanville Saturday afternoon to take on the ched up it always proves to be a very exciting and fast skating game. After some kind and encouraging words from coach Bob Spencley Port came out all fired up to give a 100 percent effort. Kenton LeFort opened up the scoring as he and Jay Tredway did some fancy skating and out maneuvered the Bowmanville defence and after several attempts blasted it home. Nice work boys! Bowmanville added 2 more to end the period 2-1. It wasn't until late in the 2nd period that Port's Craig Laird pick- ed up a perfect pass from Jay King and raced up the ice to tie the game 2-2. Super play boys. The Port Perry team had many scoring chances but luck just wasn't on their side today as they hit the cross bar, the posts and even a couple that skimmed the top of the net! Try as they dit I don't think there has ever been a team that has to work so hard for a goal! With 5 minutes remaining in an unusual 15 minute period Bowman- ville went ahead 3:2. With 1 minute remaining and nothing to loose Port pulled the goaltender in favor of 6 attackers. With Port dominating the play they continually fired at the Bowman- ville net but to no avail. Bowman- ville slipped it out of their end and scored on the empty net. The game ended 4-2 ~The Auctioneers next game is Fri day Jan. 23 against Stouffville and Sunday they travel to Lindsay. It was so popular that about 20 youngsters had to be turned away The Second Schedule will get underway on Monday, January 26 and will conclude with another round of playoffs and a champion ship game just prior to the March Break. During the next few wks, Junior Curlers in Port Perry will be involv- ed in several events including the ~ LOSSA Boy's final in Uxbridge on ~The two teams that reached the, Feb 5th. and the LOSSA Girls final one week later, also. in Uxbridge On Feb. 13th, Junior Curlers from Port Perry and Parry Sound will get together for a "Red and White" competition. The teams will be made up of two curlers from each community, and there will be a total of 64 youngsters (grades 7 and 8). taking part.
