In their ~ first game the Port boys tangled with Manvers and were out hustled and ended up on the short end of an 8-1 score. Todd Taylor picked up our only goal on a beautiful shot on the goalie's glove side. Jason McBride was awarded the M.V.P. for his hard work in this game. This loss * placed us out of the running for the championship but gave us a'shot at the consolation. . _ Petites » wer / | On Saturday, January 10 the Brutons I.D.A. Petites travelled to Iroquois Park in Whitby. This game was the first game in the new year and the girls came out on the losing side with a score of 6-5. Port's lack of effort along with poor passing. and skating got them into trouble more than once during the game. The girls failed to capitalize on the power play at- tempts against Whitby which could have made a difference in the score. After a good start to the season Port now sees that without a second ef- The next game saw Port face off with a team from Bobcaygeon. The bulk of the first period was scoreless with the action heated around both nets. With 1 second remaining in the first period, Bobcageon popped in their first goal of the game. After . the teams switched ends Port put the pressure on and finally at 8:09 Jason McBride scored, assisted by Darrell Vanderslagt and "John- "Boo" Ennis. Port popped another one in at 5:25. Then Port got really determined and in the dying seconds Craig Leask picked up the puck in the corner, circled around the net and put the puck in with 1 second re- maining. At the first drop of the puck Port had this game - in hand. Port destroyed the - Otonabee team by a score of 9-2. A very happy team captain Greg Fit- zgerald accepted the trophy. Port Hope scored four goals in the first period before Port Perry started to get into the game Steve Staniland scored the second goal for the Legionnaires with the pass coming from Jody Logan. On Friday night the Legionnaires played against the Oshawa LNHL "Bruins and won their game 6-1. The Port team worked-hard and Jan Heyes opened the scoring with Mark Andrews and Jeff Parry pick- ing up the assists.
