Viewpoint by ROXANNE REVELER' 'Q For the past two weeks, I have been on vacation--and-that aet has led me to two definite conclusions. I am not so sure I love working anymore, and I am positive I loathe Snow and the cold weather that accompanies it. ~ Seriously though, I have found it very dif- ficult to come back to the reality of every day life in Brooklin after over two weeks living it up in the sun and fun of Florida. ~ Funnily enough, I had never had any in- "we thought if we didn't make the pilgrimage to Disney World now, they would be too old to even want to go pretty soon. So the plans were made and off we went. We bought a motorhome late last sum- mer, and apart from a few weekend trips to "out, this was our first real test in our home on wheels. Everything went absolutely great. We left home at 5:30 Christmas morning after celebrating our holiday rituals the night. before. We had planned to take three days to drive down to Florida, but found trav elling i in Harvey so comfortable that we made it in two. Fourteen hours of straight driving between .. the three drivers proved to be a cinch. The hours just flew by. : We had decided the first thing we 'would do was go to Disney World and get it out of the 'way. Again we had budgeted three days of our time, but after one completé day there, we "mutually agreed that was quite enough. It wasn't as though it wasn't nice. Everyone en- joyed it, but lining up for 45 minutes for everything from rides, to exhibits, to getting food and even using the toilet facilities had taken its toll. It was onwards and upwards for the crew. The vote was taken and it was all points south for Harvey and his occupants. After a day of driving we ended up in a KOA Kamp 'in Naples. We had planned to stay for twe days: and then continued on our way. But it turned out to be such a great place, with every im- concluded we would stay put for a while longer. Well our while longer ended up to be nine days and we enjoyed every minute of it. The Kamp was located about half way - between Marcos Island, the playground of the rich and famous, and the town of Naples. It was uncommercialized and the people were charming. Although there was a huge swim- ming pool complete with health spa where we 'were staying, we made several trips to the 'beach and ocean. The Kids'even got their act together one morning at 6 a.m. in order to hit the beach in search of sea shells and they found some beauties. Apparently, this section of Florida is a shell collectors dream as the tides and currents wash ashore some ofthe better shells to be found. And we found buckets of them. Lovely Mother of Pearl, Conch (pronounced conk I was informed by the locals) and some I had never seenbefore. The. hatchback of the car we had rented for our duration was full of sand and by the end of the day smelled like a fish factory from all the sea shells it contained. " -And then there was the fruit. A family of died and gone to heaven. My son had taken to going fishing every safternoon around 4 p.m. at the local pier While there one day. he met a charming old chap. A native Neopolitan, with whom he became quite friendly. The gent showed number one son which was the best bait to use and the best locations and times to get results. A friendship started between the two which soon expanded to include the entire family It turned out that the gent, whom we called Unk at his insistance, owned a fruit grove and insisted on our visit there, that we pick all we. wanted. Unk was a widower who lived alone surrouned by every imaginable type of fruit tree. "Y'all pack all v'want or it'] jest fawl en rot on the groun™ we were told.
