rr', On Sunday, Dec. 28th, the Malmont Farms-Atoms team won the 'A' Championship in a three day hockey tournament in Bowmanville. They defeated the hometown Canadian Tire Atoms 4-2'in the final, coming from behind to do it. Here, Capt. It certainly was a great start to 1987 for the J.T. Pearce Auctioneers as they took 2 straight games against Uxbridge and Oshawa this weekend. On Friday night the Novice No.1 --soundly beat Uxbridge in a lop sid- ed match-up 9-0. The Novice No.1 team played an outstanding game displaying fabulous passing plays and sheer determination as they totally dominated the game. The Auctioneers defensive lines of Billy Zaparanuik, Greg Thompson, Jay King and Matt Morris did a fabulous job keeping the puck out of their zone allowing Oshawa only 2 shots on Brandon Hammond and Scot Prechitko throughout the game! "Port's 1st goal came during the opening minutes of the 2nd period as-- Billy Zaparanuik set up the play to Kenton LeFort who made a center-. ing pass to Tommy Chambers who in turn beat the Oshawa fetinder Nice team work boys! . Port's final goal came in the 3rd period as Ryan Williams raced up the boards and made a perfect. pass to Jeremey Geer who blasted it up into the top corner. Terrific goal boys! The game ended Port on top 2-0. The score could easily have been higher but Port was robbed countless times by the superb goaltending of the Oshawa team. Both teams battled back and forth in the first period but Ajax was on top at the end by 3-1. The Ajax girls remained in com- mand in the final frame outscoring Port again making the final 8-4. Scoring for Port were Kelly Calloway 2 goals, Sherry Harris 1 goal, 2 assists, Jen Pelow 1 goal, 2 assists, with single assists going to Michelle Beare, Kim Caudle, Kerri Allen and Connie Norton. On Sat., Dec. 27 the Juniors travelled to Markham to take part in their annual tournament. The first game was at 10 a.m. against the Markham team. Our girls seem- ed to always be one stride behind their opponents therefore, took "a rash of penalties in the first period. The Markham girls with their ex- ~pertise in the game of ringette capitilized on every opportunity they could making the score 9-0 at the end of the first period. . The Port girls pulled up their socks inthe second period but no matter how hard they tried the ring bounced everywhere but in the net. The final score was 10-0 for - Markham. In the next game Port found themselves against a team from North Bay. ] Port Perry again found themselves fighting more against penalties then their opponents. Although Port held the score close in the first period the final score was The Port Perry Lions House League team participated in the Lit- tle Britain House League Hockey Tournament on Monday, December 29. ' Port met Millbrook in the first game and played close hockey through the first two periods. Jeremy Norton scored a short hand- ed goal from Robert 'McEachern and Mike Staniland at 1:17. Millbrook 'scored three goals, and Port came within one when Robert McEachern scored after a perfect pass from Jeremy Norton. Kyle Simms kept Port in the game with some fantastic saves. Unfortunate- AJ LJ LJ Seek Jeremy Norton 10-1 for North Bay. The only scorer for Port was Michelle Beare from Rachel Traynor. Due to the team from London ° dropping out of the tournament the Port team played another team from Markham Sunday night at 7 p.m. This game saw the score slide back and forth during the first period which ended 2-2. The Port team seemed to lay back inthe final frame and let Markham take a 5-2 lead but with only 7 minutes left in the game Port caught fire and scored 4 unanswered goals to make the final 6-5 for Part. Harris played blue stick and Sherry Harris took a turn between the pipes. ww The girls seemed to enjoy the break from routine but they all seemed especially grateful for the come-from-behind victory. Port Midgets trip up Bowmanville 5-1 Port Perry Canadian Tire Midget No. 2's travelled to Bowmanville for a Young Canada game. The boys were ready for this one, as they've been beaten by Bowmanville in December twice in close contests. But this day was Port Perrys turn and did they do a.tune on Bowman- ville, 5-1 win. The boys started out slow, but for Rick King who held the team in till the boys got going. Mike Gibson got the teams first goal ona pass from Eric Douma. In ~ the second period, Bowmanville tied it up on Kevin Flintoff's goal with' Scott Bunt assisting. The Tiremen then got their game going when John Lally passed to Keith Roberge who fired at the net and Ron Halligan banged it home in the corner. : Lions compete 'ly Millbrogk scored two quick goals to win 5-2... In the'second game Port came out flying against Orono and again scored the first goal. Kevin Ellis scored, assisted by Sean Gawley. Orono went ahead 2-1 but Port tied the score. Mike Staniland and set up McEachern. fan McClelland had - two excellent chances but the puck sat on the line! Orono scored twice to win 4-2. The Port boys had an enjoyable time and they thank coaches Norm Gawley, Dave Ellis and manager Bruce Shannon. Rob ) Then in the third period the bays went to work, Jeff Breen drove the puck home, taking a pass from Jamie Menzies. Mike Gibson got his second goal of the game but only after Andrew Steele battled for the puck then "passed to Gibby. Again Steele broke up a pass and fed Jamie Menzies who made no mistake. Final Score Canadian Tire 5-1. - ~ Up'in Beaverton, the team had a bad trip and we should have stayed home. Some of these boys had bet- ter think before they try to run the team. Losing 9-0 to Sunderland they were never in this game after the third goal. In Wednesday's game we were defeated by Beaverton 3-1 with David Irvine scoring the only goal on the weekend - Jamie Menzies and Jeff Breen added assists.
