"A word on residents Sou og Island Area News d * by Mrs. Earl Reader This has been such a happy . season of friendship renewals and family gatherings and we look for- ward to the Annual Christmas mail which brings us up-to-date on the lives of relatives, friends and former residents of the Island. So at this time we pass along words of Mrs. Elva Martyn now 93 and a lengthy resident of Con. 6E. Mrs. Ida Britton, a resident in a Bowmanville Nursing Home just turned 90 and therefore feeling older, but very alert in mind and penmanship and so interested in families around the 'Head' where her early interests were. Then the 4 Gibbons sisters who spent their summers at Port View Beach but upheld the services in the 'Head Memorial" Church and worked with the area people. Flora (Miller) Muf+~ husband has joined her. We, who . fitt of Toronto who spent her early vouth#fnd school days on the Island has wonderful memories of her ear- ly life & has fréjuently inspired us with her life of courage and fortitude in spite of 30 years of incurable il- Iness. Laura Needham, now of Ter- race, B.C-is pleased to report her DURHAM SHOES INC. 230 YOUR FOO NEW WINTER STORE HOURS: Monday to Saturday - 9.30 to 5:30 UEEN STREET - PORT PERRY EAR SPECIALISTS FOR LADIES, TEENS & CHILDREN parents still alive and well and she is always interested in former schoolmates at the Foot. Sandra (Fralick) Boos of B.C. is fortunate in having her parents Florence and Ray Fralick visit her and family as they have done recently. Miss Beatrice McLean made a personnal phone call and-passed along Best Wishes to all. Her interests are still in Scugog too. Now we are sorry we have to report sad stories too at this season. * A short time before Christmas, Mrs. 'Marion Hughes of Port View was in- formed her brother of Nova Scotia had suddenly passed away without suffering * Abeut a month ago, we were told Mrs. Alf Eden had passed away and now we are shocked to learn her have lived on the Island for some time remember when they had the Island store, now run by Joel . Aldred. Our sy mpathy 1S extended to Bon- nie Ballingall and her sister and their families. The lady who works inv Joel 'Aldred's store, Yoshio Hikida recently lost her father in B.C. Our sympathy is extended to her. Marg Demara's mother was in a H Nursing Home in Oshawa and recently passed away. So we send our condolences to Margaret -and family. - Thru the years we frequently had occasion to meet Joan Aldred's mother, Mrs. Ada Pearson who has had a life-long interest in Scugog when she visited the Redmans and especially after she introduced Joan to the Island. She is always such a cheerful little person living in the Port Perry Villa for some time and ynow in the Nursing Home which is more comfortable for her 90 plus years. Sunday was a very interesting day at the Island United when all welcomed the new minister Miss Edith Bolton and she found herself in new surroundings. She is living in the Manse and invited people to call on her so she can get acquainted. Don't forget Choir practice is Thursday afternoon at 1:30 thru the winter at least. If vou are interested in singing come along to the Island United. a ~The "Grace UCW will meet this Wed. Jan 7th at 1:30 p.m. in the church. The 'Head UCW will also meet this Wed.
