Tt e saw Port Perry up ~ against wc Ushawa Black Hawks with Port winning a close one, 2-1. Port drew first blood early in the Tweens win gold medals On Saturday, December 6, the Allen Aluminum Tweens enjoyed some lively Ringette at their home tournament. Once again they have proven that they are Champions as they won the gold medals. In the first game of the day, Markham came up on the short end of an 11-6 score. Nicole Slack and - Lisa Levy really found the corners, scoring 5 goals each. Sylvia Dur- ward also shot one into the net. Lisa Levy, Danielle Cooper and Christine Mueller got 3 assists each, Sylvia Durward, Lisa Toye, Laurel Men- zies and Nicole Slack got 1 assist each. For the second game against Richmond Hill, Sylvia Durward opened the game with 2 quick goals. | The Allen Aluminum Tweens never looked back. They scored thirteen goals against Richmond Hill's 6. Assisting for this game were Sylvia Durward and Nicole Slack, 3 assists each, Danielle \ Cooper 2 assists, Laurel Menzies, Christine Mueller and Lisa Levy each got one assist. The Championship game that the girls had long awaited finally came as they once again faced Markham. Lisa Levy again led the way for the Allen Aluminum Tweens with 7 goals and 1 assist but full credit goes John Hartford. The line of War- riner, Hartford and Brian Prak- ken had a very strong game in a penalty killing and checking role, giving the Muskies fits all night with their relentless ef- game on a goal from Phil McBride assisted by John Harman and Derek /Dexter. The remainder of the first went scoreless and left Port with a one goal lead heading into the second. It didn't take the Black Hawks long to even the score and tighten up the play as they scored at the 7:31 mark of the second. The second was to all of the girls who played as a strong, confident team to keep the gold in Port Perry. Also scoring for Port Perry in the 10-3 game were Nicole Slack 2 goals, 2 assists, Sylvia Durward 1 goal, 2 assists, Lisa Toye got 4 assists, Christine Mueller 3 assists, Danielle Cooper 2 assists and Laurel Menzies 1 assist. Nicki Beare played a strong game between the bars especially during the second half when some great saves kept Markham's ring out of the net. Congratulations girls! On Saturday, December 13, Bob- caygeon met the Allen Aluminum Tweens for a game that was a real nail-biter. The girls had a hard time connecting their passes and just didn't seem to play to their usual standard. At the end of the first period, Bobcaygeon was leading 4-3. Our netminder, Heather Lawrence, made some great saves and shut Bobcaygeon out during the second period. This combined with two hard earned goals brought Allen Aluminum back to grab another vic- tory. Scoring for Port Perry were Lisa Levy 4 goals, Nicole Slack 1 goal, 2 assists, Danielle Cooper 4 assists, and Laurel Menzies 1 assist. The Allen Aluminum Tweens would like to take this opportunity to thank their sponsors, coaches and all of the people who have made Ringette pessible. They wish them all a very Merry Christmas. forts. MoJacks won the game 4-2 and remain on top of the Central Junior C overall stan- dings with 30 points. But several other teams are closing fast. (See story for details) played hard by both teams and thus as a result only the one goal was scored. The third period was dominated by the Eagles as they had many good chances but just weren't able to slip the puck past the dynamite Oshawa goaltender. The time was winding down and thoughts of over- time were in the air but Port didn't 'particularly care for overtime and finally managed to bang one by the Oshawa netminder. It was Steve (Twiggy) Connors who passed the puck to John Harman and Harman fed a perfect pass to the waiting - Dave Burnett who in turn blistered a slap shot past the goalie. The Eagles maintained the lead for the last few minutes and pulled off the win with the help of our goalie Bill Eade who played sensational bet- ween the pipes. The Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens were hot on December 6 when they won all three games to capture the gold medals at the annual Tween tournament held at the Scugog Arena. The girls were led by high scoring Lisa Levy who had an incredible 21 goals in the three games, including nine in one game. In front row from left to right: Mojacks split weekend but | ill : by John B. McClelland The Port Perry MoJacks remain on top of the standings in the Cen- tral Junior C Hockey League, but with the season just past the mid- point, there are several teams hot on their heels. The MoJacks split a pair of low- scoring games over the weekend, losing 3-2 Saturday night to the Lit- tle: Britain Merchants and then doubling the improved Lindsay Muskies 4-2 on Sunday at the Scugog Arena. The team now has 30 points on a . record of 15 wins and four losses, and the MoJacks have a string of very tough games coming up in the next two weeks. Bowmanville, Ajax, Lakefield, Port Hope and Uxbridge are all within striking distance of the first place MoJacks. On Saturday night against the Merchants in Little Britain, the Mo- Jacks simply could not get the puck in the net as they went down to a 3-2 The Eagles next match was against a stronger club from Newcastle and proved to be a contest. Newcastle jumped on the scoreboard in the first shift of the game much to the dismay of the Port squad, but the Eagles battled back on a goal by Warren Geer assisted by Twiggy Connors and Mark Barkey. The first period had ended and Port found themselves in a tie, with both teams struggling to break it. It was a goal from Andrew Steele which finally did break the tie assisted by John Harman. With less than a minute to play in the second period, Steve Connors slapped a shot into the top corner giving Port a comfortable lead going into the third, assisted by Warren Geer and . (Turn to page 23) Toye, top defeat. It was the first time since October 17 that the potent MoJacks scoring machine has been held to just two goals. Andy Sutch scored one of the goals with an assist from Rob St. Jules, while newcomer Len Giacalone counted the other. For the Mer- chants, it was Paul Young, Jerry Kea and John O'Loughlin with what proved to be the winner. This was a clean game with only eight minor penalties called, four to each side. That's a bit unusual for a contest between the Merchants and the MoJacks. : At the Scugog Arena Sunday night, the MoJacks had a fairly wide margin in play throughout the game, throwing 49 shots at Muskie netminder Bob Topper. The Mo- Jacks opened up a 3-1 lead after the first period on goals by Craig Men- zies, Mark McVety and Rob St. Jules, the last two coming on the power play. Sean Bradley and Rick Wilson (two) picked up the assists. The Muskies lone marker of the period was a short-handed effort by Chuck Phillips who snared an errant MoJacks pass at his own blue line and raced in alone to beat Brian Tarleton. Midway through the second period, winger Chris Nicholson gave the MoJacks some breathing space as he rapped one past Topper with Andy Sutch drawing the assist. The only scoring in the final period came early when Scot Hamilton found the range for the Muskies, but the MoJacks played it tidy and cosy the rest of the way to preserve the important 4-2 victory. This was the second game in a MoJack uniform for Len Giacalone. He's a big rugged right winger who likes to throw his weight around. On the MoJacks power plays, he camped right in front of Lindsay netminder Bob Topper. But Giacalone will have to sit out the next four games as he became em- broiled in a spirited fight with big Dave Kimble of the Muskies.
