26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 2, 1986 Goreski Bantams outscore the competition defenseman Blaine Sleep will be off On the weekend of November 21, 22, and 23rd the Goreski Bantams travelled to Cobourg to play in their annual 24 team tournament. The boys played a total of 6 games on the weekend and outscored the opposi- tion by a score of 20-10 even though they went 3-3 on the weekend. We opened play Friday evening The second game was played on Saturday afternoon and the squad defeated the Aurora majors by a 4-1 score. This set up a showdown with - Midland to decide who would win the division and receive automatic entry into Sunday's play. Unfortunately the Midland team .came out slightly stronger and fresher and prevailed 2-1. Not only did the boys lose the game but also for a minimum of 6 weeks with a broken hand and another defenseman also had to sit out this game with a pulled groin muscle. Fortunately our goal spread was large enough to allow us to be one of the two wildcard teams allowed into Sunday's play. The first game early Sunday mor- ning was against the Oshawa Cana- diens and the boys earned a hard fought 3-1 victory. This win set up a match with Bowmanville. In a game that went end to end, Bowmanville came out victorious by a 4-3 score. Port almost tied the score but the final buzzar sounded before the puck entered the net. This match set up a rematch with Midland in the Consolation final. In what was probably the most ex- 4 speed, AM/FM cassette HWY. 7A at WATER ST. The remarkable thing about this end to end game was that not a single penalty was called on either team in the entire game. The Goreski squad should be pro- ud of their effort, as every team they faced was from a much higher population base and with a little luck could have won each of the games they lost. Leading the scoring parade was Mike Sorley with 4 goals and 4 assists. Claire Cornish also had 4 goals while chipping in 3 assists. Kevin Gibson added 3 goals while Derek Fitzgerald added 2 (with 2 assists) and Jason Weinhald also added 2 markers and picked u_* one assist. Graham Sullivan added a single goal while Jarvett Harman scored once and assisted once. Paul Allen picked up his first goal of the year and also added 2 assists. Paul Wylie and Chris Legere each added 3 assists while Brian Appleby and goaltender Brad Bricknell each add- ed one assist. Both goalies also played great all weekend.
