At Port Perry High School Airbands fight for victory by Margaret Rowland Once again the Port Perry High School Airband Finals proved to be an exciting event for both the par- ticipatts and the audience. Anticipation grew as the gym began to fill with spectators at noon on Friday, who were expecting a good fight. When the judges were in their seats 'and the first finalist group was ready, the curtains parted. It began with a bang as the Enter your audience was transported back in time to the 50's while Tina Soomre, Sue MacMillan, Dana Forder, Ann Finch, Joanne Edmiston, and An- drea Calloway performed "Summer Nights' from the hit musical "Grease." When the next finalist appeared on the stage the audience had to take a second look. Was that Dave. Hooper or was that really Kenny Rogers? '"Hoop" gave a very con- home in Star's Lights contest This year, the Port Perry Star wants to light up your life! For the first time, the Star is hosting a Christmas Lights contest, where the most beautifully decorated homes in Scugog Township will be judged for their Christmas splendour. Christmas Lights 1986 is designed to encourage folks to decorate their homes in the Christmas spirit. Lights, as well as any other outdoor Christmas decorations qualify, and will be judged by three distinguish- ed locals, including Star editor John B. McClelland. To enter, just call Cathy Olliffe at the Star (985-7383) anytime before OSHAWA December 17th. Make sure to leave your name, phone number and ad- dress. If your home is in a rural location, also leave directions. On the night of the 17th, starting at 7 p.m., the judges will take to the - streets, checking out each home entered in the contest. The winners will be announced in the Star's Christmas Greetings issue December 23rd. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entrants -- $50 for first, $30 for second, and $20 for third. The winners' homes will also be photographed for the paper's use in the Christmas Greetings issue. CARPET WAREHOUSE 149 KING STREET WEST vincing performance as he did Rogers' hit "The Gambler." The Bay City Rollers, resurrected by Todd Soomre, Jeff Ireland, Craig Menzies, Steve Langille, and Dave Culbert, exploded onto the stage and performed 'Saturday Night" while - the audience clapped along. Mike Kosurko and his entourage appeared next as Billy Idol and his band to do "White Wedding' which had the spectators rockin. Jerry Lee Lewis was brought to life in the P.P.H.S. gym by Darryl Leatherdale with "Great Balls of Fire" as he banged on the piano just like the great rocker himself. The last finalist group was Aerosmith/RUN DMC, made up of Brent Smith, Craig Venning, Doug Arculus, Paul Goreski, Bill Im- perial, and Ryan Parliament, as they performed "Walk This Way" in a battle of the bands. The winners of the Airband Finals, Mike Kosurko and the group who impersonated Aerosmith and RUN DMC, will now go on to the Regional Airband Finals to take place at P.P.H.S. in April. Tke Regional Finals will include finalists from schools all over Durham Region who will compete for the top honour.
