A pat on the back for council at by Alicia Boutilier Mention the word 'high school' to anyone and fond memories come to mind. One envisions dances, sports, initiations and assemblies. The year book is pulled out and the old rugby jersey is used to dry tears. None of these events, however, would come to pass were it not for a Students Council. Our PPHS Students Council members do not get enough r 2cogni- tion for their accomplishments and it's high time they did. Let's start off at the top of our Ex: ecutive Council with President and Vice, Kristy Armour and Leigh Ann Goreski. Kristy conducts our Coun- cil meetings and both of them super- vise all student activities. If that isn't enough, Kristy and Leigh Ann Rl are organizing the air band competi- tion to be held on Friday, November 28. Our secretary, Rebecca Kahn, is involved in all the paperwork. Beck must report the minutes of each meeting, prepare an agenda, take notes, and keep our calendar up to date. Cindy Rankin is our treasurer. She writes up statements covering all Council monetary transactions and regularly announces how much money is in the treasury account. The athletics committee -- B.J. Andrews, Chris Relf, Dave Schwan, and Craig Venning -- keeps in touch with the athletic concerns of the school and sets up the athletic ban- quet at the end of the school year. This is a form of recognizing students who excel in academics, sports, and other school activities. These outstanding students are awarded at the end of the year, with a letter ""'P" crest (for "Port Perry High School" of course). Lisa James and Kari Townshend have, since summer, been planning our At-Home prom. The animals should be in at the beginning of December. Other campaigns included carnations for Valentine's Day and chocolate bars in spring. The money raised is put into the Council treasury for use in benefitting the school. Winter Carnival '86 will be run by Andrea Carnegie, Pam Phiipott, and Pam th. The theme is "Fun in the Sun" and one their nifty ideas is the dating game. The yearbook editors are also a part of the Executive Council. At this very moment, Chris Solar and PPHS Mandy Martin are designing a book destined to be a best seller in PPHS halls, a book which will be around for years to come, a book never forgotten. All other duties which do not fit in an executive members category are passed on to the President's Coun- cil. This group is also the helping hand to any member with a par- ticularly heavy work load. And last, but not least, are our class representatives. These students are elected at the beginn- ing of each school year by their classmates to represent the class at meetings and to inform the class of events., Let's hear it for Council!
