Mr. Thompson, who took an ac- tive role in community affairs through the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, told the Star last week he's going to miss Port Perry. Stopping theft Canada Trust has come up with a new service that may help homeowners protect their property and possessions from break and enters and theft. The company is offering a $500 reward to anyone who supplies in- formation about a theft or break-in which leads to the arrest and convic- tion of those responsible. Earl McDonald, Canada Trust rep in Oshawa, told the Star that the program would be of interest to residents in Scugog Township because of the high number of break and enters and thefts that have been taking place here in recent months. The service applies to residential dwelling only (not apartments or - businesses) and the homeowner must register with Canada Trust. There is no charge to the homeowner for registering. The $500 reward will be paid by Canada Trust to anyone who pro- vides information about a break-in or theft that leads to a conviction for the offense. 'The business community is very vibrant here and I'm going to miss the town and the people," he said. With his new job. as area manager, Mr. Thompson will be working out of the Bank's Toronto head office, but he expects that the job will bring him back to Port Perry several times each year. Taking over the duties as manager of the Port Perry branch is Bill Graham, a native of Brant- ford. He's been with the Commerce for the past 18 years and has manag- ed branches in Toronto and Ajax, where he now resides with his wife Claudia and two children 9 and 7. Mr. Graham told the Star he's in the process of looking for a home in Port Perry and plans to become ac- tively involved in community affairs. 263 Queen Street, He is a member of the Big Brothers executive in Ajax- Pickering and is a past director of the provincial Big Brothers. He is active with the Kinsmen Club in Ajax and plays "old-timers" hockey and slow pitch, in his spare time. And he follows his nine year old son around hockey arenas in the winter as he plays all-star with an Ajax Novice team. Another recent change at the Commerce in Port Perry was the appointment Earle Mayes as assistant manager to take over from Paul Davidson who is now manag- ing the branch in Woodville. Mr. Mayes specializes in farm banking and brings an agricultural background to the position. He grew up on a farm near Barrie and took agriculture courses at the Universi- ty of Guelph.
