Nov. 22 10-4 PORT PERRY TOWN HALL Just one look at >.A L.'s T.L.C. is more than enough to convince the onlooker how much Shirley Lowe loves children. S.AL.'s T.L.C. (Shirley Anne Lowe's Tender Loving Care) is Burketon's newest day care centre, a private home that has been con- verted into a kids' paradise. The basement is huge and roomy, filled with swings, toys, and lots of happy young faces. Proprietor Shirley's father-in-law designed the children's playground at Ontario Place as well as the large box brim- ming over with green plastic balls in Shirley's basement. "It's a unique atmosphere, and 'Shirley thrives on it. "I love kids. It's a natural thing for me to do because I'm a kid myself," she says with a grin. "I have a lot to give, lots of love and attention." She has been providing day care since June 1985 in Whitby, where she and her husband and their two children lived prior to moving to Burketon in September. At the present time she is looking after several children on a part-time basis, but she has the facilities to look after five permanent children. "Five is the maximum I'll take," she says. | don't want to get into a large day care centre atmosphere. I want to keep it-small so I can give all I can give now." Her philosophy is simple. "The way I basically run it is.the kids are just like my own Kids. I treat them like they're my own," she explains. Everything the children might need is provided by Shirley. Nutritious lunches, music, stories and loads of room to play are the basics. A nearby park, only a short walk away, houses a baseball dia- mond, horses on springs, and a slide. "The living room is used for quiet times, where children can read she says. 'Downstairs is the all-c bash-up time where kids can really use up a lot of energy." Her rates are $2 an hour for a single child, and $3 an hour for two ~ children. Tax receipts are given, and in every way, S.AL.'s T.L.C. is professionally run. But professional as it is, the cen- tre is still a homey place. The children call Shirley '*Auntie Shirl" and it's hard to say who has more fun, the proprietor or the kids. "Children just mesmerize me in general,' "Auntie Shirl" admits. 'For more information, call Shirley Lowe at 263-8323.
