Fair Board member Rod McKay questioned what other sites had the School Board considered and that he couldn't belidve there is not another suitable site. Counsillor Harvey Graham, ob- viously frustrated by the negotia- tions said, "There is not a number two site. If there was a second best site we would not be sitting here now." It was pointed out that the Board of Education had looked at a total of nine sites and there was not one other site that came even close to meeting the seven criteria that the Board feels a site must meet. Long time member of the Fair Board, Armour McMillan pointed out that if a new school is not built the Fair Board will be blamed, but MPP loses camera Some days it just doesn't pay to be a nice guy! At least that must be what M.P.P. Sam Cureatz is thinking this week. Sam took part in the Great Scugog Monopoly Championship at Town Hall 1873 on Saturday, November 1 and came away much poorer than when he arrived. It wasn't that he didn't win the Monopo- ly Championship, but he lost some valuable possessions that he had brought with him to Port Perry. Missing after the game finished was a legal sized beige carry- ing case with his Fujica 35 mm camera and flash. In addition to this an Ontario Provincial flag and numerous pins were also in the case. Anyone who may have seen the case, camera or contents are asked to call the Port Perry Star and leave a message. We'll make sure it gets delivered back to the owner. Ne if there is no Fair (because they sur- render the land), the School Board would not be blamed. "If we do decide in favour of a move for the School Board, we must ask ourselves, will there be a Fair in 19887" Mr. McMillan said 'hat he felt both parties were to blame for this yery unfortunate Situation. He said that the Fair Board is a weak organization with no control over the land and that they were being 'pushed around. "It has been a misunderstanding from the start and maybe it would be better if we all resign and go back to the original decision," he concluded. Discussion of a buy-out of the lease or the consideration of another piece of land were brief, but at one point when Fair Board vice- chairman Doug Coates asked if council was willing to discuss another site Mayor Taylor replied '""'we are prepared to discuss any move." Whether or not the Fair Board wants to move is really still up in the air. Numerous times throughout the meeting councillor Howard Hall asked point blank 'Do you (Fair Board) want to move?" He explain- ed that council has asked them to reconsider their original decision because they were asked by the School Board to approach the new executive. "If the Fair Board does not want to move at this time tell us and that will be the end," Mayor Taylor urged. : Council then left the council chambers so the Fair Board could discuss the proposals in private, but on their return council found that they had made no firm decision. Chairman Jim Jamieson inform- ed council that the Fair Board would meet on November 19th. In the meantime, council is to hold a special meeting, this Thursday to deal with the Fair Board concerns so they will have answers for the next meeting between the two parties. If a decision is not made by the November 19th meeting; it is entire- ly possible that Port Perry will be put on hold for another year for a new school, according to informa- tion from the Durham Board of Education. the Gate RESTAURANT TAVERN Family style dining for your enjoyment OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK LARGE MENU SELECTION RESERVE NOW For the Holiday Season!
