During the early evening the victim was drinking at the Spruce Villa Hotel and had met two men who had offered to drive him home to Scarborough. At about 9:30 p.m. he left the hotel with the men, one of whom got into the driver's seat of the victim's vehicle. The victim got in the passengers side and was hit in the head, and knocked out. Some time later the victim woke up being driven on a gravel road and asked the suspect what was happening. At this point the suspect pulled over and threatened the victim with a 6" knife deman- ding his money. The victim gave him about $350.00 and was then push- ed from the vehicle. The victim's vehicle was later found abandoned about 5 miles from the hotel. The suspects are described as: No. 1 -- White male, mid 20's, 5'8", 160 lbs. Short dark brown hair, well dressed. No. 1 -- White male, mid 20's, 5'9"', 190 lbs. Reddish-brown hair and moustache, well dressed with a blue windbreaker. A re-enactment of this Crime will be shown on CITY TV on Thurs- day, Nov. 6, 1986 at 6 p.m. & 10 p.m. It will also be shown on CHEX & CKVR TV Stations on Friday, Noy. 7, 1986. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of persons responsible for this offence. Similar amounts will be paid for TIPS leading to an arrest in any serious crime. Man honoured Epsom native son Ross Prentice' 'was honoured this past summer when he received the Presidents Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies in the United States. Mr. Prentice, 39, received the award and $1000 cash in Chicago last August. The award is sponsored annually by several world-wide organizations and presented "to the most outstanding statistician under the age of 40. He was nominated for his con- tribution to the profession of statistics, especially in the field of cancer clincial trials, statistical methods for case control studies, and the development of new designs for cancer prevention studies. Mr. Prentice's specialty is in biostatistics with the Fred Hut- chison Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, Washington. He has work- ed at the Centre since 1974 and for the last three years has been the director of Centre's division of Public Health Sciences. He is a native of Epsom, where he attended public school. After graduation from Uxbridge Secon- dary School, he studied math at Waterloo University and took his doctorate at the University of Toronto. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gor- don Prentice, formerly of Epsom, now of Uxbridge. Cook-off cancelled ~ The 1986-1987 CHOO CHILI COOK-OFF has been cancelled!! The annual fundraising event for the benefit of THE EASTER SEALS SOCIETY and local community groups dedicated to raising funds for the handicapped children of the Durham Region no longer has a home! CHOO RADIO, the sponsor, organizer, and promoter of the popular event was unsuccessful with its application to the Town of Whit- by to hold the event at The Brooklin Fair Grounds on the weekend of May 29, 30 and 31, 1987.
