5 6 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 28, 1986 Letters October reflections on Scugog Dear Sir: As | look out my picture w 'ndow this fine October morning, | see a beautiful scene. I look across the quiet shimmering water that look like mirrors of glass or like the clear ice of a skating rink. I look at the quiet town as quiet as a cell. As | watch the mirrored reflec- tions on the water, | see everything reflected twice - the quaint houses, the water tank, the town park, the library. The whole town is there and in reverse. The sky is full of pillowed clouds and they are also reversed in the water. | see a seagull flying upside down in the water or is that a reflection? 'The morning sun comes out to add to the beauty of the day. It gives c 1t the true colours of the trees. The trees with their hues of reds and golds and greens, blending in with the blues of the sky. The Master painter has been at work and He also added the reflections to the ear- ly water in the morning. The weekend traffic is over and everything is almost at a standstill. There are but a few cars going over the Causeway. The sun brings the birds to life and it is fun to see the little chickadees flitting about. Last night as the sun went down, I knew it would be a nice day -- for the sun went down like a big ball of fire with its reflection five times the length of the glowing sun. Then, later, when the sun went down, there was a large splash of pinks Port Perry memories (From page 5) For the years that I've managed the store I must say I've really en- joyed my work. My customers are the best! The time has come though to move on. For a change I'm going to work on the other end of a camera. I'll be taking the photos at a Photography School on Vancouver Island, B.C, Whether or not I return is still not decided but I do leave the store in very capable hands where it will develop nicely (Photographers Pun). I would like to thank all of the customers of Port for supporting us and making my life more pleasant. Port Perry is a very special town, one that every citizen should be pro- ud to be a part of. It also has the nicest customers. Thank-you. Phil Walmsley, One Hour Photo. and mauves and greys and blues -- & kaleidoscope of colour. As the-sun went down and it started getting dark, I had a new picture postcard of colour. The bright lights were as nice I'm sure as the Aurora Borealis. They kept changing every five minutes - sometimes they were jewels, they were ribbons, streamers, diamonds, candles. The reflections had the same jewels, ribbons, streamers, diamonds and candles. Oft times a light on shore would be a reflection five times making the water and the shore into a Cathedral of Lights. What a spectacular view! What a joy to behold! The most beautiful of all towns, the Town of Port Perry. This panorama I see of Autumn's Golden Splendor from my picture window at Portsview beach, this fine Oc- tober morning and last evening. Violet Hanley R.R. 3, Port Perry By-law disregarded To The Editor: We wish to express our grave con- cern with a case of blatant disregard of Municipal By- -laws which has recently arisen in Prince Albert. An application to re-zone three lots on the west side of Simcoe St. South, south of The Hope Reform Church, has been submitted by Par- do Estates of Whitby. A notice of the public hearing to be held October 20, 1986, was receiv- ed by residents of the surrounding area approximately mid September. Excavation had begun _ at the site prior to the notices being received. How can a reputable builder begin construction of three single family dwellings on proper- ty zoned *'holding," with no building permits, no engineers report (land grade), and no test hole for septic systems? Numerous phone calls from area residents to our administrator, Mr. Earl Cuddie and to Ward One Coun- cillor Yvonne Christie against the ~ three developments, resulted in a stop work order being issued pen- ding the October 20th hearing. Mr. Cuddie, however had allowed the footings to be poured before enfor- cing this stop work order because according to him, materials had been ordered and delivered (work continued for three days). The hearing for land severance of 263 Queen Street, Port Perry (9 October 20 left many questions unresolved, but it was established that no further work was to resume until thirty-five days after the coun- cil had reached a decision for re- zoning. On October 21 at eight a.in. Mr. Vince Corvinelli, owner of Par- do Estates received shipment of fur- ther building materials and com- menced the construction of the foun- dation for Lot No.3. Due to previous commitments of Mr. Cuddie, he was unable to be con- tacted on that day. However, Mayor Taylor was informed of the work in progress. Mrs. Yvonne Christie was also contacted at this time. On October 22, work on the site was again resumed by Mr. Cor- vinelli and continued during the day inspite of three visits to the site by Mr. Cuddie and numerous com- plaints from area residents. We are not opposed to the con- struction of these three homes in principle. We are however, opposed to the fact that municipal by-laws (which we as taxpayers are obliged 'to abide by) appear to have been disregarded i in this instance.
