The MoJacks got two of the points on the basis of a protest lodged by the team against Port Hope for an ineligible player in the first game of the season October 9. The league up- held the MoJack protest and touk two points away from the Panthers. Then Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks took another two points by whipping the visiting Panthers 7-2, thanks in part to a hat trick by Chris Nicholson and a strong goal-tending performance from Paul Goreski. Last Wednesday evening (Oc- tober 22) the MoJacks made the long road trip to Brighton and feasted on the hapless Bruins to the tune of 16-0. Mark McVety led the scoring parade with six goals, while Sean Bradley had a five point night with a goal and four helpers. Brian Tarelton recorded the shut-out for the MoJacks. The team faced a much tougher opposition Sunday night at the Scugog Arena when the Panthers paid a visit. On Sunday, October 26, the Brutons IDA Petites travelled to Long Branch Arena in Etobicoke with Port winning this game with a score of 23-2. After 5 minutes of play the coach made a change of game plan, allow- ing the defence to play forwards and the forwards to play back. It was nice to see all the girls have an op- portunity to score. Most of the girls got their first goals for the season. All the girls made good passing plays which will be valuable to future games. Panthers to tie the score at two each. Dan Weir and Shawn Kelly found the range for the visitors who dressed just 12 skaters for this contest. With the second period 1:38 old, Chric Nicholson scored what prov- ed to be the winner on the power play set up by Andy Sutch and Darren Nesbitt. Nicholson wound up from the face-off circle and drilled a slap shot through Pan- ther gouaiic Guy Foster. Just before the mid-point of the period, Rob Baker slapped in a loose puck off a scramble and the MoJack lead was increased to two goals. Mark McVety and Rick Wilson drew the assists. Late in the period, the MoJacks ran into a string of minor penalties but they kept the Panthers off the board with some fine work by John Hartford, Rick Wilson, Brian Prak- ken, Brian Stevenson and Greg War- riner. When the Panthers did manage to get a shot on net, Goreski came up with the key saves. Early in the third, captain Andy Sutch showed some great work con- trolling the puck inside the Panther blue line. He fed a pass to defenseman Clay Dempsey in the slot and he made no mistake with a rising shot over the glove of the Port Hope net-minder. Five minutes later, Chris Nicholson put the MoJacks up 6-2 as he bulled his way in close for a back- hand, and John Hartford rounded out the scoring at 15:41 off a scram- ble in the goal mouth area. The MoJacks out-shot the visitors in this game 38-29. They were call- ed for 12 minor penalties, while Port Hope took 34 minutes, including two five minute majors, one for high- sticking and one for grabbing the face mask. Port Perry now has eight points (four wins and one loss) and trail un- defeated Uxbridge by a single point in the Crowley Division of the Cen- tral Junior C loop. The team faces a tough week with three games starting this Tuesday night (Oct.28) in Ajax against the Axemen who are also un-defeated so far. On Saturday night, the MoJacks will travel to Madoc and the next night (Sun. Nov.2) will host the high- flying Uxbridge Bruins at the Scugog Arena with face-off at 7:30 p.m. This should prove to be a fine hockey game as it will be the first time this season MoJack coach George Burnett will face Uxbridge where he was the assistant coach last season. And from the way the Bruins have been playing so far this season, they look like "the team to beat' in the Crowley Division. MoJack net-minder Brian Tarleton is also an ex-Bruin and no doubt he'd like to get the job of fac- ing his former te in the cage this coming Sunday Tough game fo Novice A guys by Brenda LeFort The J.P. Pearce Auctioneers had a busy weekend travelling Friday night to Stouffville to face off against the Clippers, then Sunday for a fast skating match-up against Lindsay. On Friday night the Novice No.1 really made Stouffville work hard as our home team passed and skated together like old pros. Sandy Mark, Kenton LeFort and Billy Zaparanik all had great break away chances but we foiled by the superb goalten- ding on the Stouffville team. The defensive lines. of Jay King, Matt Morris and Gavin Carnegie really played outstanding, blocking many of Stouffvilles rushes. Great game boys! Even though Port lost 2-0, in my opinion the J.P. Pearce Auctioneers really played an excep- tional game of hockey. Sunday saw Port facing off against a very strong Lindsay team. Brandon Hammond and Scott Juveniles The Port Perry Juveniles lost their home opener 4-2 to a tough team from Bewdley. The Port Juveniles played a strong game on defense. Special note should go to the play of Joe Forder, Chris Cookman, Lee Wilbur and John Harman who made several key defensive plays. The goaltending of John Moore was first rate. Moore only allowed 4 Bewdley goals while facing about Prechitko shared duties between the pipes and both boys made many spectacular saves as Lindsay put their goaltending skills to the test. Way to play boys! Although Port lost 7-1 this great little team never gave up. Throughout the entire game each and every player gave a 100 percent effort. Ryan Williams, Jeremy Geer, Timmy Fitzpatrick, Tommy Chambers and Greg Thompson all played solidly along the boards giv- ing the Port Perry spectators a game they were proud to watch. Good game boys. Port's lone goal came in the 3rd period as Kenton LeFort broke through the Lindsay defence and blasted one up high past the net- minder. Great shot Kenton!
