The celebrations vary in time for a year to many years. The chur- ches usually have a favourite time of year for an annual celebration. To show our interest and appreciation of the past and present efforts, gifts are usually given as in the case of the church. Therefore Sunday, October 19 was chosen for the Anniversary of the Island United Church when Man- chester and Scugog gathered at 11 a.m. To add to our joy we were blessed with perfect weather to en- courage a full attendance. The decorations from Thanksgiving were very appropriate. The music was perfect and we certainly ap- preciated the male quintet from Prince Albert. A former resident and member along with his wife were welcome additions to the choir. We are indeed pleased to have them again residing on the Island. ° The guest speaker, Rev. Atkinson of Toronto & Scugog though retired (Turn to page 39) More Nestleton and area news From page 26 Chris and Michael, Ajax and Bill Hall Sr., Oshawa, and a friend Margaret Duncan of Whitby were guests with John and Marion Hall at their cottage, Wms. Point. A nice family get-together. Richard and Janice MacKenzie, Claire and Leslie, Nestleton, visited with Dr. and Mrs. W.F. MacKenzie at their Haliburton cottage after church on Sunday. Don and Norma Frew, Nestleton, hosted their family for the Thanksgiving celebration on Sun- day, Oct. 12. Some twenty members in all. A fine gathering of the clan. Dinner guests with Sam and Mabel Cawker, Scugog Point Rd., on Tuesday last were Russell and Edda Bowman of St. Christopher Ray and Dorothy Carson of Hunt- sville, have been frequent visitors with her parents ... George and Ella Bowers of Nestleton, and other family members, due to illness in the family. Trust George and Ella will be fine now. Barry Malcolm, Simcoe, was a Friday overnight guest with his parents Lawrence and Gwendolyn Malcolm, Nestleton. His wife Joan attended the Junior W.I1. Convention held at Solina on Friday and Saturday. Four ladies, namely Leona Sadler, Barb Weir, Gwen Malcolm and Janice MacKenzie attended the Presbyterial held on Wednesday at Maple Grove. Janice had the pleasure of introducing the guest speaker Deborah Marshall ... of Kur Head Office, St. Clair, Toronto. Women's Concerns ... and she spoke on the Future of the United Church Women. The refreshments were served by Susan Larocque, Anne Harran and Irene Train and very much enjoyed by all. A very good attendance -- so glad to see you at our card games hav- ing a "super" time. Anne won a pumpkin donated by Roy Werry. Nestleton Presbyterian Church On a beautiful sunny day the 10 a.m. Church Service was conducted by Rev. F. Swann with Mrs. Joyce Taylor, organist. Psalm 5 was read in unison and Chapter 2 of I St. John was the Scripture reading, and from this Bible portion the sermon on "Evidences of our Christian Walk" was based. Sunday School was held with Dorothy Lee in charge. Choir members would be welcomed. Next Sunday the Service will be at 11 a.m. Standard Time. Note." Rev. F. Swann reported that Mrs. Swann's mother, Mrs. Johnson (91 years) is progressing well in Oshawa Hospital following a broken hip accident. Best wishes to one fine lady! Nestleton United COLD CUT CENTRE & BAKE SHOP "Please Take With Ina Davis and family greeting at the door the Nestleton United Church service taken by the U.C.W.'s on Sunday, October 19, was most interesting with all members having a part. Mabel Cawker conducted the service and presented a brief message entitled "In Everything Give Thanks.' The five part choir sang in harmony ... Count Your Blessings and Bringing In The Sheaves ... with organist Gwendolyn at the helm. A Dialogue .. "The Four Marys" was acted out well by five members. Scripture taken by Marion Hall and the Responsive Reading by Barb Weir. The children's theme by Jean Williams was great. Prayer by Neta Fish and the offering received by Bernice Mairs and Leona Sadler was all well done. We commend the afternoon and evening U.C.W.'s for doing their best while minister Rev. Dale Davis was away. It was most impressive to say the least! Don't forget our anniversary next Sunday, October 26, 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Glenn Jackson and guest preacher. Special music will be a feature! Notice The Blackstock Lioness Club is sponsoring a Bus to Samco Toys on Thursday, October 30th. The cost is $5 per person.
