Tyke narrowly misses being hit by errant driver Utica and Area News by Vera Brown It has been brought to my atten- tion that even with the reduced speed limit through our village, some drivers are making it very dangerous for the children who must walk the highway to reach the school bus stop at the corner. Ap- parently a little girl narrowly escaped being hit by a car that was passing a truck on the shoulder of the road where she was walking. Drivers please be more careful as our children are the most precious possessions we have. 'This week at the United Church, Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Sobil home will be choir practise; Thurs- day at 8 p.m. in Utica Church the Session and Stewards will meet; Friday 8 p.m. in Epsom Church will be the Social Club's Halloween par- ty; Sunday Church & Sunday School will be held at 11:15 a.m. in Utica Church. Time is running out for those in- terested to get their tickets for the "beef supper to be held a week from this Thursday. See the coming events for more information. There will be a euchre in Utica Hall this Friday at 8 p.m. and all are welcome. Mrs. Eva Sutcliffe, Georgina Sutcliffe and Irene Fielding were in Toronto on Friday evening to attend the taping of the Tommy Hunter Show which will be aired on December 26th. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Aked, Rebecca and Mrs. Jane Bradbury UXBRIDGE have returned home following a three week vacation overseas. While in England they were joined by Stephen's parents from Yellowknife, N.W.T., and enjoyed a family reunion with other members from England. From there they travelled to Scotland where they met with relatives of Mrs. Brad- bury's side of the family as well as travelling around and viewing the many interesting sites. Thanksgiving Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Slute were son Brian and family of Cookstown, son Ken and Lori of Greenbank, and daughter Sharane Ross and boys of Port Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Slute of Bowmanville were supper guests with Lorne and Eileen this past Saturday. Eileen attended a get-together with ladies who attend- ed teachers college with her a few years back. This is held each year at the Briars at Jackson's Point. Happy 1st Birthday to Miss Janine Croxall who's birthday is Tuesday 21st of October. As if Kevin Carre hasn't had enough trouble with his illness this summer, now he has had the misfor- tune to fall from his bicycle and break his collarbone. Just think of ~ all the attention you will get when you're up to going back to school Kevin. Epsom and Area News by Jean Jeffery Earl and Elizabeth Taylor and Kay had dinner Saturday evening with Earl's sister Ruth in Cannington. Elizabeth says, "Watch out I'm really going to scare you Friday night."' Come one, come all to the Annual Halloween Costume party at Epsom Church on Friday night at eight o'clock. Host and Hostesses are Alice and Steve Lee, Mary and Robert Evans, Tom and Feona Armstrong. Ladies provide Epsom Social Club. Tickets for the U.C.W. Beef Sup- per at Utica will be October 30. Vera Brown and Elizabeth Taylor have tickets. The first Sunday in November will be a red letter day at Epsom Church. November 2 at 11:15 a.m. it will be Anniversary Service with guest speaker John Tapscott and special music. The Tapscott family were in Toronto on Sunday for a family Christening. Mr. and Mrs. Ketler presented their daughter Lindsey for Christening. Mr. Wilmot Phair and Mr. Enoch McKnight were Sunday dinner guests with Elmer and Ruth Wilson. Keith and Faye Ashton had dinner recently with Gerald and Nancy Hill. Gregg Ashton of Oakwood visited his grandparents Howard and Ruth Charged Durham Regional Police have ar- rested and charged a Caesarea man in connection with the theft of gasoline from his neighbour's vehi- cle on Summit Drive. Witnesses watched as the suspect attempted to take the gas, and then called police. The incident happen- ed at 2:10 a.m. October 18th. Police arrived at2:20 a.m. and ar- rested Michael McCourt, 18, for theft under $1,000. He is scheduled to appear in Ajax Court November Ashton last Friday evening. Ken and Beth Caf.ierwood of Oshawa spent Sunde ' with Howard and Ruth. Happy Birthday greetings from all of us to Evelyn Hansen. Evelyn, Darlene Christie and Hildreth Lyons were joined by most of Mrs. Hansen's family for a dinner party. Evelyn was invited into Darlene's home on returning to Epsom. When the lights were turned on, the rooms were filled with well-wishers. Several were friends that Evelyn and Judy had travelled to Scotland with last year. Joel Van Veghel was a Sunday guest of Don and Stella Asling. Wedding Anniversarys roll around again. This week Don and Stella celebrated their 48th and Jean and Gordon their 54th on Sunday. Mrs. Simpson celebrated her bir- thday last week at Lois and Harry Elford's. Most of the children and grandchildren dropped in to wish "Gramma" a Happy Birthday last Sunday afternoon.
