Next week we will have a list of the boys on each team as some were holidaying this gorgeous Saturday, and were not assigned sweater numbers. The following are the results of the action-packed openers on Satur- day afternoon. Port Pegry Lions -- 1 Marj Tripp Realty -- 1 This was an exciting game from start to finish with both teams play- ing some outstanding hockey. Graham Holt opened the score for Marj Tripp at the 4:33 mark of the first period unassisted. It was a hard fought battle all the way, as the Marj Tripp team had no extras to choose from on the bench and played at a very fast pace. The Lions in full uniform had an ex- cellent goal by Keven Ellis in the dy- ing minutes of the third period to even the score and leave the game tied. Shannon Leslie and Mike Staniland pressed on numerous oc- casions for the Lins, but James Pat- terson in goal for Tripp turned them away. Craig Dale between the pipes for the Lions had a very steady game coming up with some pro-like saves l.ake Scugog Lumber -- 2 UAW. --0 Another excellent game with both teams evenly matched at 10 a side. The first period saw both clubs play- ing very defensive and as a result no F goals were scored. Karen Kett in goal for Lake Scugog and Garf Lefort for U.A.W. made some dazzl- ing saves. It wasn't until the 11:02 mark of the second period, that Lake Scugog popped one, the credit going to Tobe Shewan, assisted by Kevin Pearce. The U.AW.'s for- ward Derek Anderson and defenseman Ryan Ridgway had ex- cellent opportunities, but could not put it past Lake Scugog's defense. In the third period Lake Scugog scored. Dale Bradbury.fending the target assisted by winger Andrew Jones. Gord Lewis Motors -- 1 Whitby Auto Wreckers -- 4 This was a real thriller with lots of excitement in both ends. Whitby Auto Wreckers got on the scoreboard twice in the first period with two unassisted goals going to Mike Labanovich. Gord Lewis Motors' Lou Whitfield, Mike Pugh and Mark Cosway had some chances but Greg Ranking for Whit- by Auto Wreckers was in fine form and covered well between the pipes. In the second period Neil Hancock scored from Mike Labanovich to put the Auto Wreckers ahead 3-0. Gord (Turn page page 25)
