22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, September 30, 1986 Sports The Port Perry MoJacks have chalked up two straight victories in Central Junior C exhibition games, both at the Scugog Arena. Last Thursday evening, the Mo- Jacks clipped the Little Britain Mer- chants 7-6 and on Sunday night the team used the third period to pull away from the Lindsay Muskies en + route to a 7-5 victory. As pre-season games go, both these matches were pretty enter- taining affairs. And with just 11 players signed to cards (prior to Sunday's game) there are a lot of hopefuls fighting for a spot on the roster. In both games, the MoJacks got some impressive scoring punch from veterans Andy Sutch and Chris Nicholson who were teamed together on one forward line. Against Little Britain, Nicholson potted the first two goals to give the MoJacks an early 2-0 lead. Sutch also. notched a pair of goals and chipped in with an assist. Other - marksmen in this game were Dave Burnett, Rick Wilson and Greg War- riner who had a pair of assists as well. Paul Goreski played the entire game in the cage for the MoJacks New season for broomball loop This past weekend saw regular season play get underway in the Port Perry Broomball Association. With the exception of Utica Farm Equipment all the teams came out with an abundance of players, show- ing that the sport is nowhere near death in this area. In game one of the day, Emmer- son's squeaked out a close decision over B & L Donuts 2-1. There was no scoring throughout the first period but 3:47 into the final frame Danny Brown set up Charlie Dennis for the first maker. It was a 2-0 score with 5:22 left when Les Allen and John Gerber connected. B & L Donuts - spoiled Kevin Beer's shut out bid when Terry Black scored from Eric Kristensen with 3:30 to play. Blackstock Merchants, sponsored by Bryan's Farms, All Flags Shell, Howard Forder Realtor, Keuning Construction and Karwood Enter- prises handed Utica Farm Equip- ment a 3-1 loss to start the season for these two teams. Again as in the first game the opening period went scoreless, but LADIES WEDNESDAY NIGHT BOWLING September 27, 1986 Team Standings: Young and the Restless 9, Strugglers 9, All My Children 8, The Jokers 7, Guiding Light 6, Gamblers 3. For the visiting Merchants, John O'Laughlin notched a pair of markers, while veteran Willy Thornbury had three assists. Against Lindsay on Sunday night, Sutch and Nicholson were again in high gear as they counted seven scoring points between them. Nicholson had two goals and Sutch rapped in a single to go with four assists. Other goal scorers for Port Perry in this one were Clay Demspey, Rick Wilson, Mark McVety and John Hartford. It was a fairly even contest with both teams moving the puck sur- prisingly well for pre-season play. At one point late in the second period, the MoJacks fell behind 5-4, but Nicholson got one in the final minute, and the team added two more in the third while shutting Lindsay out. Tony Stabile played a solid game in the MoJack goal. He's out of Oshawa and the MoJacks are hop- ing to get his name on a card later this week. Prior to the start of Sunday's game, the MoJacks had signed 11 players to cards. They expect to be signing several more players this week. The players who have signed in- clude goaltender Paul Goreski, Dar- rin Nesbitt, Rick Wilson, Craig Men- zies, Rob Phinney, Andy Sutch, Chris Nicholson, John Hartford, Clay Dempsey, Mike Watters and Jim Lewis. Pre-season games this week will have the MoJacks paying a visit Fri- day night to the Lindsay Arena and then hosting the Ajax Axemen this Sunday evening at the Scugog Arena with face-off at 7:30 p.m. With the entry of four new teams in the Central League this season MoJacks grab pair of pre-season victories (Ajax, Brighton, Madoc and Well- ington) the league has been aligned into three divisions, each with four teams. The MoJacks are part of the Walter Crowley Division along with Lindsay, Little Britain and Ux- bridge. The Bruins appear to be off to a good start with several wins in pre-season play. Once the pre-season schedule is out of the way, the MoJacks will hit the road for the first two regular season games, starting October 9 in Port Hope and then October 17 in Wellington. The first regular season home game at the Scugog Arena is Sunday, October 19 when the Lind- say Muskies will provide the opposi- tion. If last week's exhibition game is any indication, it appears as if a Port Perry-Lindsay rivalry is already starting to develop. There were 70 minutes in penalties called in the game, all minors 7 3 Eg 3 Action got underway for the first time this season Saturday afternoon for the Port Perry Ringette Leagues and coaches Margo Fitzpatrick and Reg Templeman put this group of Petites (11 and under) through an hour-long practise at the Scugog Arena.
