Ri ; 4 { i kL no romain 7 5 i 1 { F | id i 1 ] Greenbank and Area News by Muriel Gibson The Women's Institute meeting will be at my home on Wed., Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. There will be a gue .t from the Lewiscraft in Oshawa Cen- tre, showing us some new crafts We would like to see some of the younger ladies of the community join us for the evening. Mrs. Ann Wills of Scarborough visited on Sunday with her sister Helen and Don McKean. On Sunday, at the Greenbank United Church, a plaque was dedicated in memory of the late Rev. G. Keith McMillanB.A., B.D, D.D. Members of his family were present, and took part in the service. Robert McMillan reminisced as a brother, son Bruce expressed his deep gratitude for his father's in- fluence, and Rev. Arthur Hamilton, brother-in-law reviewed his work in the ministry, and daughter, Margaret unveiled the plaque. Mr. Neil Hunter, clerk of the session ac- cepted the plaque on behalf of the congregation. Family and friends were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Armour McMillan follow- ing the service. Feeling better by Mrs: Earl Reader Glad to report some Island residents are home from hospital and feeling better. Camie Samells is breathing better. Maurice Fralick is able to be out after his operation in Toronto. Margaret Morrow tries to enjoy her game of cards in the hospital after having surgery on 'both hands. Christina Prentice on the main Island Rd. is trying to close her eyes to the work she has always loved, while she awaits by-pass surgery at Western Hospital. Marion Hughes is glad to be back in her comfy home again. Yes, Sept. is the month of new beginnings. Now that the children are all settled in their school life, it's time for church and community to renew it's organizations, perhaps with new leaders. So watch the dates from this week on. This Wednesd: y, September 17, after school, have a note to get off the bus and register at Communigy Hall, I expect, leaders - Roddy Bar- nhardt and Sue Pelyk. The other Scouts, Beavers, Cubs and Brownies also start this week. Wednesday evening the Women's Institute will start again at the hall. Guess what their motto is - "Christmas is just around the cor- ner." It isn't long since we were reminded of Port Perry Fair, members are requested to bring a No. 3 crochet hook (you don't have to know how to crochet). Guests are always welcome. This same Wednesday the Friend- ship U.C.W. will meet at the church at 1 p.m. (babysitting available). There is still something left for Thursdays after school when the children present their notes to the bus driver and get off at the Com- munity Hall for Jr. Choir. They will miss Mrs. Carol Robinson's leader- ship but 2 other ladies will carry it on. The children end the week by star- ting back to Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. The teachers are well prepared after the encouragement they had at Bible School. However, there won't be any Church Service at Scugog United as all hope to join with Man- chester for their Anniversary-at 11 a.m. when the guest speaker will be Rev. Bill Tadeja, the Chaplain of Oshawa General Hospital. His fami- ly will also supply music. A light lunch will follow the service. Dancersize begins again at Green- bank Hall.
