However, all events were carried out between the showers in the true 'Show Must - Go On" tradition. Crowds were down but enthusiasm continued. Now the next weekend is Port Perry and Kinmount Fairs which attract many local people. Two of our local young ladies became brides over the weekend. On Saturday, Debbie Wolters and Ronald David were married in the beautiful setting of Parkwoods Estate, Oshawa. On Sunday, Caroline Carnaghan became the bride of Derrick Robinson in a ceremony at the Balls Falls Historic Church, Vineland. Much happiness is wished for these two couples. Last Sunday luncheon guests of Mrs. Flora Samells were Mrs. Earl Trewin of Enniskillen and Mrs. Lloyd Slemon of Hayden. Harvey and Lois Yellowlees of Solina and Ralph and Peggy Larmer were Sunday evening din- ner guests of Glenn and Marion Larmer in celebration of the Yellowlees' 35th Wedding Anniver- sary. Congratulations! Helen Dorrell of Charlton is spen- ding a few days in the a with Harold and Eileen McLaughlin and attended both the fair and the Pur- ple Hill School Re-union. Sorry to report that Mrs. Wilbur Toms suffered injuries in a fall last week and is confined to Port Perry Hospital. Better health is wished for her and also to Mr. E.R. Trewin who is also a patient at Port Perry Hospital. The Second Purple Hill School Re- union was held at the school on Sun- day afternoon. As it was pointed out, there are very few schools still kept in such excellent condition that Pur- ple Hill L.O.L. maintains that building. Following registration, pictures and visiting the group pro- vided to the Blackstock Rec. Centre where many pictures, old school books and even a school drinking cup were displayed and enjoyed. Swine Class at Sunderland Fair Again this year pork producers will be able to enter their pigs in Sunderland Fairs Swine Class. Two classes are available: the first is a single barrow to be judged as a market hog and the second is a single open gilt to be judged as a gilt for breeding. The competition is divided into two sections. On Tuesday afternoon, September 9, the animals will be electronically probed to determine their thickness of backfat. This will be done by the Record of Perfor- mance Technician and competitors must have their swine at the arena before 2:00 p.m. The animals will then be judged for conformation in the evening at 7:15 p.m. The two scores will be combined to deter- mine the winners. This years judge is Henry de Wolde of Ashburn, Ontario. Prizes will be awarded to the first four winners of each class in the amounts of $15, $12, $10 and $8. A trophy donated by Durham West Pork Producers Association will be awarded for each first place pig. Also to be awarded this year is the Louis De koker & Son Ltd.
