Town Hall is in second decade The organization that has brought Maureen Forrester, Hagood Hardy, Moe Koffman, 'Billy Bishop Goes to War," the Shaw Festival, Peter Ap pleyard, the Tapestry Singers, Tom Millar and Gloria Forder, Genes, Gentleman Jim and the Jazz Barons to Port Perry, it now proudly begins its eleventh subscription series - with another superb line-up of talented and renowned d performers. Beginning the season on Satur- ~ day, October 4, is a group hailed as one of the wittiest collages of per- formers anywhere. Quintessence, a string quintet - a string quartet and electrict guitarist - is a finely - tun- ed ensemble, not only in the classical venue, but also as purveyors of rock, blues and bop. Town Hall's special Christmas event features Salome Bey and her back-up band in two performances . - a 2:30 workshop/performance designed especially for students, but aldults most welcome, and an 8:00 festive production for subscription series holders. Salome Bey is sophisticated. Foy the first time Town Hall 1873 is offering a dance program - the National Tap Dance Co. of Canada - and what a program this group is dishing up to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Imagine a tap accompaniment to Bach's Branden- burg Concerto (the group's signature piece), to an imaginary telephone conversation featuring the ups and downs of a relationship. This group is also performing twice - a special students' matinee at 3:30 (again adults most welcome) and the regular 8:00 p.m. subscription series concert, Saturday, February 7, 1987. Finally, the million-dollar ques- tion. Just how is Town Hall 1873 go- ing to accommodate the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra on its stage? We're not sure either, but don't miss the opportunity to find out - and the chance to hear one of Canada's finest orchestras perform in a program of light classical music - Schubert, Haydn, Mozart, etc. Thursday, March 26, 1987.
