Rose meets Princess It's not every day a former Port Perry minister has Royalty visit his congregation. And the Reverend Reg Rose was "tickled pink" when Princess Anne stopped by on Sunday to attend ser- vices at St. Olave's Anglican Church in Toronto, where Rev. Rose ministers. -Not that it was a spur of the mo- ment visit. Rev. Rose had known Her Royal Highness would be visiting his church since last Oc- tober. Buckingham Palace had been ~ scouting for a church celebrating SUNNYSIDE MARKET 986-5458 Caesarea some type of special event and St. Olave's filled the bill perfectly. The church celebrated its centen- nial on Sunday and Princess Anne helped out by reading several verses from Luke. Nearly 200 people waited outside to catch a glimpse of the Princess, wearing a lemon yellow coat with a matching multi-coloured headband made of silk. Rev. Rose, a former Scugog Township resident, Durham Regional Councillor and minister at Port Perry's Anglican Church of the Ascension from 1965 to 1982, was thrilled about the royal visit. His son Jamie Rose, of Seagrave, said his father was more than just a little excited about meeting the princess. "He said she was very nice, real- ly pleasant and out-going," Jamie said. 'She was also very inquisitive and asked lots of questions about the history of the church. She also had a good sense of humour and laugh- ed along with everyone else when someone dropped the collection plate." * CARPET CLEANING RENTALS HE * FRESH MEAT * GROCERIES * VCR RENTALS * SUNDRIES BRIAN'S TOWING -- AND -- PORT PERRY TOWING Reach Industrial Park, Port Perry, Ontario We've done it! Ninety year old Edna Coates told reporters, 'It's lovely to think I've been spared these many years to Reverend Reg Rose, a popular and well known former Scugog resident, was "thrilled" when Princess Anne made an official visit to his church, St. Olave's in Toronto on Sunday.
