PORY PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 17, 1986 -- 27 Guides receive All Round Cords Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly This coming Sunday evening will be the Awards Night for members of Guide Movement when the Canada Cord and All Round Cords will be presented. Numbers of Brownies will fly up as will a number of Guides will move on to the Pathfinders. This special even- ing will be held at the United Church at 7 p.m. and is open to the in- terested members of the communi- ty. A tea will be held following the ceremony in honour of the girls. At the United Church the service took a special note when six infants were baptized. Rebecca Helsdon sang a beautiful solo, "For Life and All its Richness."" Rev. D. Davis conducted the sacrament of baptism when the following children were presented - Mark Robert son of Marie and Bob Attfield, Kristyna Laurren daughter of Debbie and Wayne Bauer, Mark Donald son of Helen and Russell Carnaghan, Taylor Scott son of Sandy and John Churchill, Timothy Michael Stewart son of Betty and John Dunk and Kai- ly Jean daughter of Kelly and Ken Sweetman. Timothy Dunk's baptismal party was held at the home of his great- grandparents, Jantje and Matthew Mantel. Those in attendance were Howard and Dina Abbott, Oshawa, John and June Dunk, Colborne, Bill and Carol Mantel, Burketon, Michael Mantel, Brooklin, Cheryl Abbott, Daryl Glover, Lillian Wilson, John Mantel, John and Bet- ty Dunk, Daniel and Timothy. John and Sandy Churchill enter- tained in honour of Taylor's baptism with the following guests - Mr. and Mrs. Jack Churchill, Jim and Deb- bi Churchill and Graham, Jeff and Jay Churchill, Mr. and Mrs. John Scott, Rob, Dana and John, Glenn and Marion Larmer. Mrs. Nellie Ricketts of Oshawa was a guest of Debbie and Wayne Bauer following her great- granddaughter Kristyna's baptism. Kathy and Neil McLaughlin, Alex and Jessica enjoyed a weekend in Niagara Falls and area. This was a very short holiday for Neil before he assumes duties as the new owner of Cliff Pethick's Water Truck - business. The recent social evening of the L.0.B. on Wednesday evening was enjoyed by those who attended. Mrs. Muriel Wotten entertained with her slides of New Zealand. The winners of the draw made were Mrs. Lor- raine Gladstone of Bowmanville won the conforter, Mrs. Ann Park, Bowmanville won the Socket Set and Mrs. Jessie Wannan, Oshawa was the winner of the Lawn Chair. The Youth Group held a suc- cessful car wash on Friday evening and Saturday. Many shiny cars resulted from this effort. On Friday, Mrs. McArthur, Mrs. Dysart accompanied Norman and Jessie Dysart of Peterborough at- tended a surprise party in honour of Betty McArthur's birthday held at the home of Ardis and Megan McAr- thur, Craig, Grant and Chadd. Hap- py Birthday, Betty. On Tuesday evening, June 10 the Durham Board of Education held a Retirement and 25 Year Club An- nual Dinner. One of the fifty employees who were honoured on their retirement was Edwin Challice. Patti Alpe and Nancy Bryans were guests at the retirement tea of their cousin Ina Bryans Woodman at Vincent Massey School in Oshawa. These are the descendants of May Gould and Morley Wilkins of Courtice. Although only about 30 were in at- tendance, everyone enjoyed the lovely supper.
