Eleven year old Gretchen Cornish of Port Perry has tied the record for Durham Region elementary students in the girls 200 metres, Gretchen streaked to a first place finish in a time of 27.8 seconds under cold and windy conditions at the Durham Schools track and field finals held June 2 at Oshawa Civic. Fields. She also took a gold medal in the 100 metre event for 11 year old girls, and was a member of the R.H. Cor- nish P.S. girls relay team that finished second. - The track and field team from R.H. Cornish School performed very well at the meet with nine first place finishes, and seven seconds. Last year, the school placed second overall (based on points) and the school placings for this year's meet will be tabulated later this month. The following are the results of the students from R.H. Special mention also to the 13 Year Old Girls Relay Team who were 1st in Durham Region last year and repeated as champions in 1986. Special thanks also to those Dooger wins all! Keith Clement of Port Perry, bet- ter known by his nick-name "Dooger," was the winner of the $4000 grand prize at the annual elimination dance and draw held Saturday evening at the Scugog Arena. Keith held ticket 951 in the name of Sherwood Park, a trailer park owned by his brother Doug in Cloyne, Ontario. He says he will 'split the windfall with his brother. Keith is an employee at the Scugog Arena, and he purchased the winning ticket from his boss, arena manager Don Thompson, who is $100 richer himself for selling the winning ticket. The second runner-up in the draw was A.J. Hopkins who wins $250. Organizers say a total of 936 tickets (out of 1000) were sold for the fourth annual dance and draw.
