18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 13, 1986 Plants and bulbs auctioned off Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Nestleton Women's Institute Meets On a sunny spring-like afternoon the annual Plant and Bulb sale of Nestleton Women's Institute was held at the Community Centre. Mrs. J. Wygerde, the able auctioneer ca- joled the members into purc..asing a variety of plants, bulbs, home bak- ing and various other donated items. A good sum was realized for the treasury. The newly elected president Mrs. Neta Fish presided for the meeting, and welcomed members and a new member as well. The roll call was in keeping with the season "Name a gardening hint' and some good tips were shared. . During business the voting delegates to the District Annual to be held on May 14 at Hampton were named... Mrs. D. Frew, Mrs. Neta Fish and Mrs. L. Malcolm, with other members planning to attend. Nestleton Branch is to present the Memorial Service for the deceased members re: West Durham District. Pennies for Friendship for the past year will be given, and the Altgrnate District Director Mrs D. Frew will answer to the roll call. A meeting to plan programs for the year will be held at the home of Mrs. Fish, May 16 at 2 p.m. The reading of a poem entitled 'Spring' by Mrs. Fish and 'What is a Mother"'? was enjoyed. Tr A delicious lunch brought an in- teresting afternoon to a close, and Mrs. Allan Beacock extended the cappreciation to all. Caesarea Card Party + The Euchre held each Wed. even- ing at the Caesarea Centre was a success with a good attendance and plenty of enthusiasm! First prize went to Susan Larocque with 82. Se- cond to Paul Krawets with 80. Doug Thomas was low with 40. Paul Krawets held 14 lone hands for thé month of April. At the close, . refreshments. were served by Charlene Rodgers & Connie Lyons. This coming Wed. for a pleasant evening of cards. Just a friendly reminder! Don't forget the Caesarea Ladies Auxiliary Flea Market & Bake sale this coming Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. at the Community Centre. Get busy...take along a few items...baking or whatever...and give these hard working ladies your support...they are most deserving! Blue Ray Chapter Entertains This past Thursday was a. delightful evening for Blue Ray Chapter, held in the Masonic Tem- ple, Port Perry, with a fine atten- dance of sisters & brothers present from many Chapters to make it a "banner night." Special guests were Matrons & Patrons & Associates. Worthy Matron Marguerite Mitchell & Worthy Patron Chris Dennis ex- tended a warm, fraternal welcome to the many dignitaries who were escorted to the East. It was a nice surprise to see Allan Colbear...a hometown boy and wife Ruth from Prospect Chapter, Fonthill. Allan is presently Assoc. Patron and wife Ruth - D.D.G.M. of District No 7. Incidentially-Allan is the brother of Blue Ray Secretary Marg Jeffrey. The gorgeous afghan in shades of blue was on display and tickets were sold. We members will all have to get behind this project and make it a real success. The money is to be given to the Handi Transit Vehicle fund - a very worthy cause. It is the prettiest afghan I have yet to see and the tickets should go well. The draw is to be made at Chapter in June...SO...folks get your tickets...from any member of the Star. The Starway to Happiness year is moving along and so many fine projects have been carried out by W.M. Marguerite Mitchell. Family News Mothers Day guests with Mrs. Neta Fish were Calvin & Yvonne Holland & family of Bowmanville & Calvin atiended Nestleton Church: with his Mom, Jim & Audrey Leishman & family of Reaboro & Marlene Bannister & friend & Mr. & Mrs. Keith Bannister & Nicole of Peterborough. Neta has just returned from a two week holiday in Carnduff, Saskat- 'chewan, when she attended her Aunt Jane Boyes 90th birthday celebration. A great event with many relatives and friends present. We do wish Aunt Jane the best and trust she'll celebrate again next year with a big party! Neta's trip west was a gift from her wonderful family. We are glad to have her back home again - we missed her! Edgar & Anne Emerson of Nestleton, hosted a family party in honour of Irene Witherley's birth- day. Some fifty guests were present. A lovely buffet was enjoyed topped off with a birthday cake...Happy Birthday to a good friend, Irene! Guests at the Cawker farm for Mothers Day included Alan & Eleanor Cawker, Oshawa, Syl Cawker, Chandre & Jason and her Mother Mrs. M. Twamley all of Scarborough & Curt Cawker, Christine Kidd, Rob Smith & Bruna Lazarich of Oshawa. A great day of visiting! Norm & Bernice Mairs & son Allan were dinner guests with John & Diane Slute & family of R.R.no.1, Oshawa on Sunday evening. Nestleton United Church A very goodsattendance on a love- ly Sunday at Nestleton United, with Norm & Bernice Maris greeting at the door. Rev. Dale Davis presented a very fine sermon "re: Mother The Corner Stone Of The Family Unit' based on Luke 2: 41-52 & John 15: 9-12 & Matthew 19: 4-6. Glenn & Arlene Malcolm read a portion of the Scripture. The S. School sang a lively number re: Mothers Day with Janice MacKenzie leading & Betty Headon accompaying on the piano. Karen Doyle played the piano very nicely during the offering. Gwen Malcolm - organist. A very nice Mothers Day Service! Please take note: The United Church C ,uncil will meet Wednes- day, May 21, instead of May 14 as planned. Caesarea Community Church A very fine congregation on Mothers Day at Caesarea Church with Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford in the pulpit. He took his text from Exodus Ch: 2, with sermon topic "A Believ- ing Mother."" Kay Ingram gave the Responsive reading & Kathy Tromans read the Scripture. Daniel Pugh Jr. assisted as well. The children sang several chorus numbers unaccompanied, with Kathy Tromans leading. She took care of the children in the church hall during the service. Joyce Taylor was the organist. At the close flowers were distributed to the Mothers. We trust Rev.
