One day last week Frank and Jen- nie Bailey accompanied Laverne and Dorothy Martyn of Port Perry to Toronto where they visited Laverne's mother Mrs. Alec Martyn who is 93 years old and lives in a rest home there. When Frank Bailey first came to Canada from England as a teenager he lived with the Mar- tyn family who lived at that time on Scugog Island. They enjoyed a delightful visit with Mrs. Martyn. Draws were won by Betsy Staniland, Reta Boe and Ella Venning. ~ On Tuesday evening the Achieve- ~ Local girl- Student of Year ment Day Program was held in Maple Grove United Church for the club, Etiquette for the 80's. Among the presentation of awards were a Leaders Certificate for 5 years to Barbara Byers; 18 projects to Nancy Green; Karen Kyte had completed twelve projects. A new club about horticulture will be beginning for anyone over 12 on May 6 Heartiest congratulations to Jen- nifer Fletcher who was chosen Stu- dent of the Year for the Durham Board of Education. This is the first year that this prestigious award has been presented. Mr. & Mrs. Ken Larmer, Tara & Brent spent the weekend visiting his mother Mrs. Florence Larmer. They also attended the Johnston- Leonard wedding in Cavan on Sat. The bride is the youngest daughter of Les and Velma Johnston. Square Dancing Both groups of the Bashful Bows Square Dance group met in the Old Town Hall for a potluck supper and dance. The.dancing was lively and the evening was interspersed with games conducted by the very . dedicated and congenial caller Glen and his wife Carolyn. Dessert was saved until the end of the evening to round out a wonderful season of square dancing.
