Stewardess flys off for Saudi Arabia On Sunday, April 20th, Rev. Art and Ruth Rodgers held a farewell party and buffet at their Scar- borough home for their daughter, Miss Darlene Rodgers, who has ac- cepted a position as a Flight Atten- dant with the Saudi Arabia Airlines. Darlene took her training with the Canadian Armed Services Interna- tional in Toronto and has signed a contract for the next four months. Darlene and three other girls from Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal, will be sharing an apart- ment together in Jiddah, which is near the Red Sea and only a short distance from Mecca, where religious pilgrimages are held. The girls will be working on flights to Mecca, Bombay, Bangkok, Cairo, Athens, Rome, Istanbul, Paris and London. Art and Ruth took the girls to Buf- falo on Thursday to catch a flight to New York City. Their flight from New York to Jiddah, Saudi Arabia was to be thirteen hours arriving in Arabia on Friday. The Friendly Visitors had a fair turn out at their Flea Market on Sat. The winners of their draw prizes were E. Boure of Toronto for the quilt and cushion, Nelson Cochrane of Port Perry for the painting and Ruth Popowich of Port Perry the ten dollar voucher. Several ladies from Prince Albert were in attendance at the Monday Night Bowling Banquet on Sat. May 3 at the Latchum Centre and no one went home empty handed. I think Hurd St. girls done the best. Grant and Eva Hunter were in Belleville this past week-end atten- ding a Christian discovery Seminar under the leadership of Rev. Gordon Hunter and Rev. Larry Marshall. Grant and Eva also took the oppor- tunity to visit relatives in the area while down there. Tracie Andrews celebrated her 13th birthday on Friday May 2. The teenagers who run SADD (Students Against Driving Drunk) sure worked hard on Tuesday, April 29th, when they presented SADD Saturday in conjunction with Dennis Anderson Chev/Olds. The kids tanked up cars, washed windows and generally helped out while the dealership donated from each tank of gas. The work was worth it, however, when Dick Shinn of the Service Department presented SADD with a cheque for $810 on Tues- day, April 30. Accepting the money, which will be used for SADD's travelling expenses as they spread their message to other schools across the province, is (above) Rebecca Kahn, Karen Raines and Tina Soomre.
