pS 4 24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 29, 1986 New brochures take confusion out of planning How many of these questions can you answer: -- Who prepares an Official Plan? -- What is a zoning by-law? -- Where can a land severance be obtained? -- When is a building permit necessary? -- Why is there an Ontario Municipal Board? You're not alone if you have trou- ble with some of the answers: the mysteries of community planning have been confusing people for some time. That's why Ontario's Ministry of Municipal Affairs has simplified matters by producing the first citizen's guides to the land use plan- ning process. "The intention is to help the public better understand how the planning system works in our province," Municipal Affairs Minister Bernard Grandmaitre said. "By removing much of the jargon and explaining matters in simple terms, every citizen can learn how planning affects them and how they can have an effect on it." "Community Planning -- The Simple Facts' is an information package of eight brochures which outlines the basics of planning in ~ munity planning in general." 5, RAE 0 49 basic language. The brochures, which were pro- duced in both English and French . \ versions, deal with everyday land use planning issues such as zoning by-laws, building permits, land severances and subdivisions. Three brochures examine more complex planning matters ---- the Ontario Municipal Board, Official Plans and the Planning Act -- and the final brochure deals with the nature of community planning in Northern Ontario. Each brochure is designed in a The Wednesday Night Ladies Bowling From left to right: Kim Evans, Mary Hawes, Bev simple question-and-answer format, league handed out trophies at a closing banquet Evans, Alice Spence, Linda Bourgeois and Sue and several brochures contain last week. 'In this way, a citizen can use one or two of the brochures to learn about a specific development proposal, or use all of the brochures to learn about com- Raines. Supplies of the brochures have been sent to every municipality in Ontario, and members of the public can obtain copies free of charge by visiting their local municipal offices.
