Increasing public awareness that lab technologists are a crucial part of the entire health care team is what Lab Technologists Week is all about. . The other reason why Port Perry Lab chief technologist Marilyn Snider and her staff were smiling last week was the installation of a new 'state of the art" piece of equipment. Ms. Snider said the new equip- ment called The Coulter Counter T660, does a complete blood analysis, and will do a count en req and white blood cells, hemoglobin, platelets, hematocrit, and measure corpuscular volumes in a fraction of the time it took technologists to do *he work in the past. The computerized machine can do blood counts in about 60 seconds, compared with visual counting under a microscope that used to take 15 minutes. And the machine even gives the technologist an automatic print-out of its findings. Ms. Snider said this new equip- ment allows the lab staff to do blood testing with the same speed and precision accuracy as any hospital lab in the country. That's not a bad way to welcome Medical Lab Technologists Week at Port Perry Hospital. 985-2171 Our new lawn tractors come with delighted by the price.
