The Board hopes to start building During the discussions Monday afternoon, councillor Neil McLaughlin asked how anybody could think that the council would Utica speed reduced (From page 1) police enforcement to help ensure that motorists obey this limit. "Without this (enforcement) they'll still be doing 100 km through the village," she said. She added that she was given assurances by Durham Region traf- fic staff that the situation in Utica would continue to be monitored closely in the future and there is a chance the limit could be reduced at some future time. In a report to the Region's works take away the Fairgrounds land and then not provide land and financial help for the new grounds. "It's beyond me how anybody could think that might happen." « "It's nice to hear you say that," replied, Mr. Jamieson. Mr. Deeth told the m there could be about $30,000 in provincial grants available to help re-locate the Fair. And he suggested that this committee, Durham Chief Ad- ministrative Officer Donald Evans says: "These factors, combined with the operating speed of the vehicles and the seriousness of the collisions indicate a speed reduction to 70 km/hr .... rather than 60 km speed zone recommended by the Police Department." The factors Evans refers to in- clude intersecting roads, school bus stops, pedestrian activity (around the general store), and the number of driveways off Durham Roads" in the hamlet. Police look into complaints The Durham Region Police are in- vestigating complaints received from a Port Perry man over an in- cident involving several people that took place March 15 on Queen Street in Port Perry. The complaints about the police during and after the incident were filed by Jack Owen, who also has written two letters to the editor of this paper. An inspector with the Durham Force said the police investigation will include interviews with all those concerned with the incident -- police officers, the persons charged as a DINNER ROAST BEET ake table CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OF AGE EAT "FREE" at our SUNDAY BUFFET CONWAY PLACE Restaurant HWY. 7A, PORT PERRY -- Phone 985-7631 LOOK FOR THE Durham College SPRING COURSES INSERT result of the incident, and indepen- dent witnesses.
