Council, staff get pay hikes Members of Township council will be getting a five per cent pay in- crease this year, retroactive to January 1. This means that the Township will be paying Mayor Jerry Taylor $9500 annually for his duties as head of the municipality. Members of council will be paid at a rate of $7800 per year. The decision to increase the salaries paid to elected reps was made by the council at a meeting March 17 in which five per cent hikes were granted to non-union Township employees as well. These increases are in line with similar hikes in pay for outside workers who settled a new two year contract, retroactive to January 1. This is the first time the Township and the union staff have agreed on a two year pact. As members of Durham Region council, Mayor Jerry Taylor and councillor Lawrence Malcolm received a 4.2 per cent hike in the Regional salary two weeks ago. Durham councillors now earn $16,600 yearly. The stipend paid to local Scugog councillors remains the lowest among all eight municipalities in Durham Region. Scugog is the only municipality to pay its mayor less .than $10,000 per year.
